Stepping Stones is a new series of workbooks designed to initiate students to critical thinking skills that they will use throughout their academic careers, helping young students to analyze relationships between objects, determine logical sequences, examine the concepts of true and false, and use their imaginations to solve everyday problems.
Exercises are visually appealing and task-oriented, and a great many are open-ended, without a specific right or wrong answer. Examples of tasks include determining which item does not belong in a given set; answering true/false questions; completing a sequence of pictures by drawing the next item; and solving basic logic puzzles.
This book features visual activities that ask students to examine 4-9 illustrations, determine the relationship, choose the next logical item in the sequence, and draw their answer.

The puzzles are challenging because each is solved in a different way. As children go through the book, they begin to realize that there are many ways to look at things. They learn to approach each page with the understanding that the pattern will probably not be solved in the same way as earlier patterns. They begin to apply a variety of strategies and look forward to discovering the answers.
Julia Yaryan1 Stars Out Of 5December 28, 2007Julia YaryanMy grandson is in the gifted program and he was confused as to what to do. The book needs better instructions!!
Kim5 Stars Out Of 5December 18, 2007KimWhat a fun and thought provoking workbook. My son loved this book so much he always wanted to do this one first and never wanted it to end. Get the teacher's guide for the answer key. However, we also enjoyed coming up with our own creative answers. After all, isn't the point to teach our kids to think for themselves???
Katie4 Stars Out Of 5July 30, 2007KatieThis book is not for anyone caught up in "right or wrong" answers. My daughter loved it, though, because it allowed her to use her creativity while developing patterns.
Michele1 Stars Out Of 5May 9, 2007MicheleHorrible! No sense, no key. If you'd like instructions or an answer key you have to buy that additionally from Educators Publishing Service. They were not at all helpful. What a waste of money!
