mary lou jackson5 Stars Out Of 5March 4, 2001mary lou jacksonThis book was the most inspirational I've ever read, as I am the mother of 3 sons and a daughter. The youngest is 16 at this time, and I feel very connected to these authors, and can relate to many situations. It gives me renewed hope that our stepfamily can overcome the problems we brought into the family and the ones that the devil has thrown at us. I had my son Justin read a few of the chapters by Seth and I feel it helped him. The book is now full of my tears, but I'm a happy result of the book's positive inspiration. My hat's off to Joann and Seth Webster for pouring out their souls to help others.

Tell us a little about yourself. Growing up in church, the last thing I ever expected was to be part of a blended family. My father is Edwin Louis Cole, the "father of the men's movement." I've worked with him editing his books, and now write books fulltime. This book is my first time to "bare all" and tell what happens even in "good" Christian blended families.
What was your motivation behind this project? The majority of Americans, including Christians, are now in blended families. We have special problems and a low success rate, plus we often feel like second-class citizens at church. My stepson, Seth and I want to help blended family members not just to survive - but to thrive as we have!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Regardless of circumstances -- and our circumstances were awful at times -- latching onto specific principles will always produce specific results. Seth and I tell what worked and what didn't in discipline, communication, value- sharing, and other areas -- and why, in the only book co-authored by a stepparent and stepchild. It's a wild story that we hope will bring a smile along with a giant beam of hope.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? We researched every major book on stepfamilies and quote liberally from Dr. Dobson, Dr. Bray, Judith Wallerstein, Toughlove, H. Stephen Glenn, and other terrific resources, to make this a content-rich, "must read" for blended families.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Seth writes his section separate from mine, giving his insights from the children's point of view. His sections are especially useful for family discussions, particularly with adolescent children and stepchildren.
