As always, Karen Witemeyer delivers a fantastic story with witty dialogue, a fast-moving plot, and characters we can all relate to. The story line for Stealing The Preacher is a little different from her other stories; there is not a lot of action, but that I still enjoyed it immensely. The story was very well written and kept me interested, despite the lack of action. It allows the reader to focus more on the characters and their feelings and development, than the story itself.

I loved the characters in this book. Crockett Archer is taking his first steps toward a new life outside of his ranch and immediate family. His character is written in a way that makes him strong and confident, yet vulnerable because he's branching out on his own for the first time in his life. I love that Karen didn't write him as a cocky, self-assured man, but gave him a real heart and compassion, as well as doubts. Joanna Robbins is a woman I would look up to in real life. She is confident, independent, and has a loving heart. Her faith is strong and she takes her calling seriously. She is the perfect match for the compassionate, kind-hearted preacher. Their romance was precious! I loved hearing about the other Archer brothers and the secondary characters (Jackson and Silas) made the story more enjoyable.

The message was deeply rooted in the story. Some might say it's "preachy," but I think it's written perfectly. Crockett is a preacher, after all. I would be concerned if there wasn't a lot of biblical truths written throughout the story! Trust and obedience are the main truths each character has to come to terms with. It is very well-written, and flows naturally throughout the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to find out Neill Archer's fate!

After reading and thoroughly enjoying Karen's book Short Straw Bride, I have been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to read this book. A little while back, my daughter picked it up for me at a local book shop. I have to say, Karen did not disappoint. All the humor and lightheartedness that I loved about her first book was still in tact in this one. I don't know if all of Karen's books are like that, but I certainly know that I will be reading more of her novels in the near future.

In this one, Archer Crockett, a preacher, set out to win over his first congregation and hopefully be a full time minister of their church heads out on a train only to find himself kidnapped!

The humor in it, is that Joanna, Silas' only daughter has only one wish for her birthday - a preacher! Yet, her father's tactics in getting her one, only make her wish she had not voiced her desires. And they also draw quite a bit of inquiry from the local sheriff. Crockett on the other hand, believing God allows all things for a reason, is not eager to press charges or accuse the men responsible.

It is difficult to say much about the story without truly giving away what happens, but Karen certainly has added a few unexpected twists and turns, a sweet romance, a conniving schemer, and much humor to the story before its over. You may laugh, or cry, or maybe get plum upset by the turn of events, but you will not want to put down this delightful tale.

Karen gets five stars from me!! And I look forward to reading more of her works.

This review was written for Stealing the Preacher - eBook.
I love this author, and she didn't disappoint with this excellent historical romance. We've met Crockett Archer in other books, but his character is developed in this one. We find him to be a man of strong faith and principles which effect his actions. Joanna Robbins is a desperate young woman, desperate to see her father receive Christ as his Savior. Being the gentleman that he is, Crockett cant resist a desperate woman, and his helping involves humor, drama and, of course, romance. We see how God uses a variety of circumstances to pursue each one of us, including Silas Robbins. It's a great story which kept me reading right to the very satisfying conclusion. I think you'll enjoy it too!

Crockett Archer is a tried and true Texas cowboy, but he is also an honest, honorable man of God who is forced to make the best of an unexpected situation,

Joanna Robbins is a young woman of faith who has been praying for a preacher to help her with her vision to bring life to an old church. And her father, who is a retired outlaw, is determined to help her with her dream even if it means kidnapping an innocent preacher off of a train!

Once I started reading this book I couldn't stop, and when I finished it, I read it again! It a fast paced adventure, that is both encouraging and engaging. I will admit that I had my doubts about how this story would work out after I read the back cover, but I shouldn't have worried. This ended up being my favorite book by Ms. Witemeyer to date! the interaction between Joanna and Crocket is nothing short of excellent.

Though one of my favorite relationships was that of the unexpected friendship between Crockett and Joanna's father, Silas. Humor was a big part of this story, and I couldn't keep a smile from my face the whole time while reading it.

Overall this was a terrific book, probably the best I have read in a long time! This book has it all, a authentic cowboy hero, a heroine who doesn't know she is beautiful, a doting father, and a funny sidekick. As well as action, romance, and drama. I highly recommend this book!!!!

I loved Stealing the Preacher! While Short-Straw Bride introduced us to the Archer brothers and was the story of the eldest brother, Travis Archer, Stealing the Preacher is the story of the second brother, Crockett Archer.

Crockett feels like God has called him into the ministry, and so he sets out to candidate for a Pastoral position in another town. Only he never arrives. Four masked men hold up the train on which he rides, and he soon finds out that they are after_him? But why? All they'll tell him is that someone named Jo wants to talk to him. Someone that he's never met. And it has him totally mystified.

Joanna Robbins made a promise to her dying mother that she would keep working to bring her father to the Lord. But it would be better if she had some spiritual help. If only the small, abandoned church not far from her home had a preacher to fill its pulpit. It would be the ideal solution_so she prays for a preacher.

Karen Witemeyer brings to life a sweet, romantic story of two people meeting in a most unexpected way.
