Product Description

Designed for "people who want to know just enough about the starts to be able to go out at night and find the major constellations", this charming book features blue/black/white illustrations and clear text to help people do just that. All possible constellations are drawn in "graphical" style-simply the stars themselves, with lines to connect them in an easily recognizable shape-eliminating the confusion that comes from elaborately drawn allegorical figures, as well as from completely abstract star patterns.

This second edition of H.A. Rey's classic text features revised facts and figures for each planet, as well as new scientific information on earth-asteroid collisions, black holes, super-novae, the Kuper Belt, dwarf planets, and how the moon was formed. Look at each of the constellations-all clearly drawn & labeled with different stars' brightness differentiated-as well as 40 charts showing the sky throughout the year, for both our mid-northern latitude as far north as Alaska and as far south as Australia and New Zealand. 160 pages, hardcover with dust jacket.

Publisher's Description

Containing star charts, a guide to the constellations, and details about seasons and the movement of the objects we see in the sky, this classic book makes H. A. Rey’s passion for astronomy evident on every page.
Second edition updates concentrate on the planetary and solar system information in the latter half of the book. Facts and figures for each planet have been revised, and new scientific information has been added, including sections on earth-asteroid collisions, black holes, supernovas, the Kuiper Belt (asteroid belt beyond Neptune), Pluto’s reclassification, and how the moon was formed.

Author Bio

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.
