When the first book ends, it is with a cliffhanger with no indication of how the story is going to progress in the sequel, The 13: STAND. One of the hard parts of writing this review is not giving too much away in case you haven't read the first book. However, what I can tell you is that between these two books is one huge story that will cause readers to reassess their spiritual life or if they even have a relationship with God.
In this sequel, the tension begins to ebb and flow many times throughout the pages, and the ending is a masterful stroke of pure genius. Throughout the book, readers will follow The Prophet's actions as led by God speaking His Truth as he is directed. Along with following Prophet the political fallout when America is in the hands of the enemy, but not all of the land is captive. With various leads and threats, the intelligence agency and FBI work in tandem to uncover a threat of far greater concern than those who have invaded.
The best part for me besides all the action and adventure, climaxes and such is the element of faith woven so that it must be examined by each character personally because it affects the nation. I thought that was a huge thumbs up for the writers because it shows that while we may not see how individual faith affects the health of a nation, it does nonetheless.
Personally, I enjoyed the novel though I did feel convicted about not being as faithful in prayer for our nation as I need to be. I thank God that He reminded me that if we repent and confess our sins, He forgives us, and the same is true for nations. Right now America is in bad shape; there is no doubt about it. What is worse though is the spiritual health or lack thereof in America. The novel drives home the point that God is still on the throne and in control, and we have free will to choose to obey Him and seek His face or not.
The 13: FALL & The 13: STAND are both filled with suspense and heart stopping action. The way the authors ended the story is priceless. Read the books and see what you come away with. While this is fiction, God spoke to my heart and maybe He will speak to yours too.

From the back cover: America's future lies in her past_
The battle for America continues. . .but this time it's from within.
Having given up his soul's fight against God and surrendered his life to Him, CIA operative Jon Keene soon finds out that the work of the Prophet is not yet done. While the Chinese are satisfied, for now, with the latest border arrangements, a new plot is brewing inside the already weakened U.S., one that could cripple the vulnerable nation and bring the country to the brink of a second civil war.
Keene and his team are once again set against the clock, as they race to discover who and what his new threat is.
And on the eve of America's most pivotal moment, the entire world watches as an epic showdown of Biblical proportions on the floor of the House of Representatives will once and for all decide the fate of The 13.
"The 13: Stand" is a thriller make no mistake about it. Not only are the main characters lives at risk but the whole country is in great danger as well. On top of that The 13 face elimination. The authors have given us an even more exciting story than the previous one and that is really going some as "The 13: Fall" was really exciting. Don't start this book late at night because you will want to finish it before you go to sleep and you won't get any rest until you flip that last page. I enjoyed this book and would really like to see another in this series. I would like to know what will happen between Jon and Megan. All in all "The 13: Stand" is a winner that I think you will really enjoy.

IolaNew ZealandAge: 45-54Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Not thrilling.December 20, 2013IolaNew ZealandAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1A thriller should be thrilling. It should keep me turning pages like there's no tomorrow. It should keep me awake at night, wondering what's going to happen to the characters (or it should keep me up at night to finish it so I can rest).
A thriller should get my heart rate up.
I read the first 40%, got bored, so went and read something else (seriously. I'm bored reading a thriller. Doesn't that tell you something?). By the time I got back to it (two weeks later), I'd forgotten most of what had happened in the first portion but quickly picked it up again. The problem was I still wasn't engaged with any of the characters. I gave up not long after the halfway point, where two main characters had a gunfight and I realised I just didn't care who won and who died.
In fairness, 13: Stand is the second book in a series, and I often find the middle book in a trilogy to be slow, so maybe it's that. Or maybe there are too many characters (I had trouble keeping the characters, locations and politics straight).
Or maybe it's the fact that even though I have read the first book in the series (13: Fall), it was a year ago and I have forgotten most of the details. 13: Stand moved straight into the plot, with no recap of what happened in 13: Fall, and that felt as though I'd been dumped in the middle of the story.
I suspect 13:Stand is written for people who only read a handful of books each year, so have no trouble remembering the plot and characters from a book they read a year ago (several other reviewers have only reviewed this one book. I suspect that's the camp they fall in to). Unfortunately, that's not me.
