Product Description

With this book, D.A. Carson "Provides a pointed argument that the greatest need for churches today is not education, evangelism, or programs, but a deeper knowledge of God. The book contributes to filling that need by assisting those who read it to a fuller life of prayer" (Review & Expositor). Paul's epistles are presented in the school of prayer.

I can't believe this book has existed for over 20 years before I managed to read it. My French husband has loved the French edition called "Renewed Prayer" and it was through him I came to order a copy. It has saddened me over the years to see in so many prayer meetings the only subjects were healing and safty on the roads. How do you come up with that when you read Scripture? I wish every Christian I know could read this book.

It is all about prayer but I think the title is right - calling Christians

to spiritual reformation based on Bible truth.

Some times we get caught up in activities and forget that the most important part of our chrisitan life is to glorify God. This book points us back to basics but it gives us a good understanding how to get there too. It not only gives us food for thougth but also food for action that needs to be taken to get us where we need to be. It is not a book to be passed over lightly and layed down. I believe we need to read and re-read it and keep it close along side our Bible. Great resource if you want spiritual growth.

I've alway had to look to the puritans to find edifying books on prayer and was happily suprised with Carsons book. Its not overtly devotional, very practical because it all comes from the Word. I agree with the other reveiwer that the practicallity of the 1st chapter was great. Carson doesn't want to write too much of his experience because he believes the Word to be sufficient in supplying prayer practices but who can't learn from Carson, fallible tho he might be? This has impacted me more than most of the puritan and 18-19 century prayer books I've read. I highly admire and respect this man and all his writing. If you want a recent, unique, incredible book on prayer thats not sentimental and man centered, this is for you.

This is the most concise and balanced book on prayer I have ever read. It changed my prayer life. I would highly recommend it.
