Tell us a little about yourself. Served as Baptist pastor since 1982. Hired as a Seminary Professor as different seminaries since 1992. Began disaster work following Hurricane Andrew in Miami. Hold certificates in Marriage & Family Therapy and Psychotherapy.
What was your motivation behind this project? This resource was developed to help clergy prepare and respond to disaster both local, regional and national. Research shows that people usually come to clergy first following a disaster. This is help prepare clergy with disaster skills.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? It is our hope that clergy will learn the life cycle of a disaster. We pray that clergy will learn the benefit of good self care before, during and following a disaster. We want clergy to have a resource to grab in a hurry to help with a particular disaster need.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? God called me to be the Project Director of the Care for the Caregivers Interfaith Project funded by the Red Cross, United Way and September 11th Fund. We helped over 7,000 caregivers following 9/11/01.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Phyllis Harrison-Ross, MD worked with me to campion MD's working side by side with clergy following a disaster. Roberta Samet gave voice and funding to my work.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I am working on a new book, Learning to Lead, also on Skylight Paths Publishing. It is due out Fall of 2012.
