Recommended for Grade 2. Every weekly lesson begins with a story - a contemporary theme story that develops key principles found in that week's Scripture verse. Daily lessons continue to build on this theme and help make learning to spell FUN! In addition, A Reason For Spelling ® encourages regular personal writing activities in a values-based setting. This gives children a meaningful context for focusing on correct spelling.
A Reason For Spelling® combines the latest research on how children learn to spell with all the strengths of traditional programs. It integrates spelling with reading, writing, and language arts, while teaching children all the high-frequency base words, plus hundreds of other word forms as well!
A Reason For Spelling® covers six grade levels, with over 200 pages of learning activities in each student workbook. In addition, the detailed Teacher Guidebook provides a wealth of enrichment ideas!
A Reason For Spelling® incorporates a variety of successful teaching techniques: daily practice, self-correction, visual imaging, detailed student feedback, learning games, the test/study/test sequence, and much more. It also includes special activities in every lesson to help motivate visual, auditory, tactile, and multi-faceted learners.

corky5 Stars Out Of 5Love itJanuary 31, 2013corkyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I picked this curriculum out after my son started reading. I wasn't sure where his spelling level would be at, but he's bright and this ended up being perfect. I believe we'll stick with this through all the levels. The teacher's manual is also great.

It uses several different methods to exercise use of the week's spelling words. It starts the week with a devotional story, tests the student's ability with the current word list and then there are different daily activities in which the student spells the words and uses them. There is proof-reading, dictation , memorization, etc. I will be recommending this to my friends.
The teacher's guide can be used multiple times, but you will need a workbook for each student. Even on weeks where my child starts the week with all words spelled correctly, we still do the dictation and proof-reading, as those have great value, even for a good speller.
We have a weekly class day, so I alter the 5 day schedule of the lessons to fit into 4 days. This works well for us.

It is really multi-sensory, with spelling out loud, using paint or shaving cream, sand, crayons, letter and other things. It is set up for a pretest and than review of spelling words for next few days on days 3-5 the activities will also include words from previous chapters so she is constantly reviewing words again!
Angela3 Stars Out Of 5February 1, 2010AngelaMy daughter enjoys the curriculum. But, it is way too easy. The words are not at all challenging. I will probably go with a different curriculum next year.
