I was so nervous choosing a program for my child's first official educational experience at home. We had worked through a couple of store bought $10 workbooks, but this was the first structured program. I had tried another highly recommended program with my older child, and it was extremely difficult, boring, and he just gave up. I researched so many options and changed my mind again and again this time around. When I opened the package at home, I thought to myself...that's it? That's all I get? If you have any hesitations about buying this program, you can let them go. It's worth the money, it's so easy and frustration free for both parents and children, what you get is all you need, and even though the songs sound outdated to me, my children love them. I've heard a thousand times to let your child set the pace, but I was never confident in what that meant. This program comes with suggested pacing for the course, but it's so easy to tell when your child is ready for the next step that we didn't need their pacing. My only minor complaint about this product was the glossy paper of the workbook pages. There might be some reason for it that I'm not aware of, but it was just annoying to work with. There is only so much you can say in a product review. I would love to tell you about every detail of this product. But in the end I'll leave you with the note that this program is completely worth the investment that your child will benefit from for the rest of their life.
As a new, slightly unsure homeschooling mom, I am very happy I chose this program. After much research and a couple personal recommendations I bought this combo kit and we all really like it. I have a 3 and 5 year old and I was looking for a fun curriculum that would give my 5 year old a solid foundation in phonics and basic reading skills. Turns out this kinder/first grade combo works for both my boys. My 3 year old wanted to do school with us, so I had him using the All Aboard Book while my 5 year old used the On Track book. Both are great for phonics and a little print practice. After completing the All Aboard workbook we are going into the Raceway book. My 5 year old can do everything the program asks him to with ease. I feel like using music with kids to learn anything is good and very useful. My 3 year old is reading CVC words with ease and loves the songs and games. I am very glad I bought this combo kit. And just a side note in case anyone is confused on the media included, mine did have cd's, no VHS tapes. The instructional dvd needs to be updated in my opinion, I only watched about 20 minutes of it and stopped. That would be my only suggestion for the kit itself. Otherwise, it is great!
Several of my homeschooling mommy friends recommended this, and we were very excited to get it. My daughter learns very well with songs, so we thought this would be perfect! When I received the package, my 5 year old and I excitedly opened it, but were somewhat disappointed to find that there were cassette tapes and a VHS. I was told that the songs that are on the cassettes are the same as the songs that are on the CD, but I have not confirmed that yet. I am unable to watch the VHS as we do not have a VHS player and shouldn't have to purchase one just to watch this one video. I know some homes still have VHS and DVD players, but come on, you really need to get with the times and upgrade the VHS to the DVD format. Other than that, we are happy with the product.
This was worth every penny. I am homeschooling my kindergartener and she loves this curriculum. She has looked forward to school time every day and her reading has improved tremendously in a short period of time. The curriculum is interactive and fun. There are worksheets and hands on activities as well as songs and games. We are very pleased.
