Great English Program
May 26, 2015
I used the Sing, Spell, Read, and Write Program for 1st and 2nd grade. The Grand Tour did not disappoint (2nd grade). If you can find the readers/books for level 2, it's a great introduction to Geography as you go through many of the states in the U.S. and talk about interesting things about each state and their capital, etc.
I used the Grand Tour book 1&2. (A Total Language Arts Curriculum). I also bought the teacher's guide but didn't end up using it. I also bought the tests and cursive lessons. The teacher's guide is good b/c it will include creative writing lessons and instructions on how to teach different grammar lessons.
End the end, I ended up using JUST the work books. They were great and included words for spelling tests, grammar lessons (which I really didn't need the guide to figure out how to teach them), and even cursive. If I had to do again, I'd JUST buy the work books. As far as grammar it taught subject/predicate, noun/verb/adjective, plural/singular, compound words, homohpones, proofreading skills/marks, how to use an index, past/present/present, synonyms, antonyms, crosswords, word searches, word scrambles.... I'm sure I'm missing things. In the end, your child will be able to spell words like Philadelphia, boutique, lieutenant, scissors, etc. Great program!
Just like Sing, Spell, Read, and Write level 1, this is a wonderful program. My kids loved using it. Level 2 takes your child on a trip through the united states. The readers that go with level 2 teach children facts about each state they visit, as well as fine tuning their reading skills. Although level 2 was made for 2nd graders I used it for first grade (after using level 1 in kindergarten) and my daughter had no difficulties using this. It is expensive to buy everything needed for level 2, but it is well worth the money and most of it can be reused. It's a great language arts program.
