It may be just what you are looking for! Tammy Algood's cookbook, Farm Fresh Southern Cooking, is a wonderful cookbook that has many lovely recipes. It has things in it from appetizers, soups, salads, sides, breads, entrees, desserts, breakfast and brunch, and even canning instructions! And it has a lot of full page stories spotlighting a certain food like honey, green beans, blueberries, etc. and a wonderful farm that sells it. [and some of them are even about things like some great farmers markets] I think this is a wonderful cookbook with great southern recipes. The recipes are very clearly wrote and were easy to understand. And I love how she has a note wrote above each recipe telling you tips for that recipe, or what it is best served with, etc. Plus I think it was great that they had the canning instructions in the cookbook as well. Some of the recipes even called for a really neat ingredient, like Rutabagas or figs or persimmons etc. And I loved how some of the recipes have a beautiful full page picture to go with them! Like there Basil Biscuits, Mixed Chocolate Peanut Clusters, Confetti Chicken Salad, and many more are pictured! I really enjoyed cooking from this cookbook and I highly recommend it!

Especially a good SOUTHERN cookbook.
Add to that a good, Southern cookbook chock full of recipes that use fresh farmer's market fare, and I'm totally head-over-heels!
Farm Fresh Southern Cooking by Tammy Algood is exactly this_.and I can easily see how it will become my best friend this summer!
This beautiful, colorful, rich photo-filled softcover cookbook takes the best of farm-fresh produce found in the South and turns these ingredients into mouth-watering recipes to grace any table.
Also included are "Spotlights" which introduce you to local purveyors of various farm fare, many of which have online or mail-order ordering options. I love supporting local labor and small businesses, so I thought that this was a super cool thing to include!
This recipe book has fare that is suitable for a weeknight supper as well as dishes for entertaining and special occasions. I love that there are so many bread recipes! You can't go wrong with a hot pan of cornbread.
This book makes me want to seek out local goat cheese and strawberries and whip up a masterpiece. (Better yet, zucchini and tomatoes from my own growing garden!)
Joyfulmom5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful CookbookMay 1, 2012JoyfulmomThis cookbook is a delight to look at. With beautiful photos of fruit, vegetables, gardens, and completed recipes, I definitely felt inspired.
Intermingled with the recipes are pages devoted to various farms, orchards, farmers' markets, bee keepers, and other small farming ventures. With a focus on eating local and in-season, there is also plenty of inspiration for using up your own garden produce.
Some of the recipes include ingredients we don't usually have on hand (or don't use in our cooking), but I think it would be simple to make substitutions (something I do on a regular basis anyway!). I have already marked several recipes I want to try from this book, such as the Confetti Chicken Salad, Revival Strawberry Bread, and the Hot Cheddar Cornbread.
Overall, I think this is a wonderful cookbook, and I'm so thankful to have it on my shelf.

The book cover and pages have a rustic look and feel, with a matte finish instead of glossy pages. It makes the book have more of a homespun feeling, even though sometimes the gorgeous photos do lose some of their luster.
My favorite thing about the cookbook was reading about all the locally owned farms and farmers markets that the author likes to visit. I'm glad there are web links too, because I really want to visit all of these places! It also encouraged me to seek out working farms near me where I can buy produce locally.
Since I love vegetarian dishes, I was excited to see so very many side dishes prepared with seasonal veggies. There's a huge variety of different produce used in new ways I hadn't seen before.

I have bought so many that I now have a way to choose what I look for in a cook book. I will list what it takes to make me both buy and use a cookbook.
1.They must have pictures of the food! I am not talking little clip art pictures I am talking about a goal as to how the end product should look like and sometimes even to inspire me as to what I should serve with it or how to arrange the food on a plate to make it not only a feast for the tummy but also the eyes .
2.The ingredients (and this is a must) need to be accessible at the grocery store (and by this I mean an everyday plain ol" type of store that can be found even in a small or tiny town) or from a farmers market or just my garden.
3.The cooking should not need extra fancy cooking devices there will never be any molecular style cooking in my kitchen.
4.Recipe must be delicious. I truly want the people eating the food to love it! I like it when I can see they do that makes me happy. I also want them leaving my kitchen thinking she is a good cook (I know a little vain of me but this true).
The Farm Fresh Southern Cooking by Tammy Algood gave me just want I wanted almost. While not every page has most do. I have tried just few of the recipes and they were both easy and delicious. I love the fact that she has, just like the book's cover states recipes that the ingredients come "straight from the garden to your dinner table". The recipes truly take me back to my time spent in Georgia. The food is truly southern and fills your tummy with the yummiest of yummy. They also make me feel like it's something my grandmother and great grandmother would have made, so I feel love when I made the recipes. The breads in this book are so good by the way. The book has it all from appetizer to canning instructions. The book is even a soft cover and is inviting. Get this cook book and enjoy your first reading with some good ol sweet tea and have fun in the kitchen. I give this book a rating of 4 stars.
