I loved this book !
Life was hard on the Kansas prairie and Vickie McDonough has written the story of Janie and the Harper family on our hearts. Who wouldn't love the quiet strength of Aaron Harper, or cherish the friendship of his family, and not be encouraged by Janie's selfless dedication to her son.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Vickie McDonough is one of my favorite writers and this book did not disappoint. :) It held my attention from start to finish. I really enjoyed the characters. Although it is part of a series, it stands alone nicely.
I received this book from the publisher for review purposes. The view stated above is my honest opinion.
Vickie McDonough writes with that stellar combination of historical integrity, compelling storyline and characters you fall in love with. From the first page to the last, Song of the Prairie will hold you captive. If you enjoy prairie romance, you can't afford to miss this entire series, Pioneer Promises.
Song of the Prairie is a wonderful book for the romantic-at-heart reader. It is about a woman named Janie Dunn, who dreams of being an opera singer. However, at her dying cousin's request, Janie takes her cousin's newborn baby and escapes from Boston to Kansas to live with her brother and to hide the baby from his abusive father. She pretends to be married to her brother. There she meets the handsome Aaron Harper, a widower with two children.
Aaron had sent his children into town a few hours' train ride from his family's homestead to live with his brother so that they could go to school. He misses them so much, seeing them rarely, and lives with guilt about not being a good father. He longs to bring them home to live with him.
Increasingly, Janie finds it hard to keep her secret from her new neighbors. When her brother dies, she receives much-needed help running the farm from Aaron. Aaron and Janie must decide if a marriage of convenience to each other is the answer to their problems.
This book was easy to read and hard to put down! The author's descriptions of the children were adorable. Vickie McDonough is my favorite fiction author. She has written another great book!
