Product DescriptionFaith and works. Salvation and sanctification. What does it mean to be saved? Is there "proof" of salvation? Partly a clear formulation of his own theology and partly a charitable response to the lordship salvation viewpoint, Ryrie's work offers a concise alternative look at the meaning and evidences of salvation and the greatness of God's grace. 160 pages, softcover from Moody.

It's the eternal difference between heaven and hell. But there is Good News. Follow along in this scholarly yet readable work as Dr. Ryrie carefully explains what the Bible has to say about salvation, discussing man's hopeless state before meeting Jesus, God's grace in saving us, and our call to obedience as we walk with Him. In So Great Salvation, Dr. Ryrie also addresses many questions raised by those who hold to the lordship salvation position. Does Jesus have to be the Lord of every area of our lives before we are saved? What about backslidden Christians? What is 'easy-believeism?' Join Dr. Ryrie as he studies the important topic of salvation. Discover how God's grace is all we need to enter the kingdom of heaven.

8 of 12 Reviews Showing:(View All Reviews) Reviewed by Jeremy (Pensacola, FL), January 26, 2010Written very well as a defense against Lordship salvation. I agree with 99% of writing and recommend this book to every believer to help distinguish between salvation and discipleship. Reviewed by Andy Anderson (Lynden, Washington), October 25, 2008So Great Salvation received the Gold Medallion Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Whether you are from the Lordship Salvation Viewpoint or not, Dr. Charles Ryrie should be given his due. I love the way that he calmly expounds the Word of God, and brings such clarity to this topic of Salvation. The forward written by Warren Wiersbe sheds considerable light upon this book; “Dr. Ryrie writes with humility and compassion. He has not overreacted to what some extremists have written. Rather, he calmly and logically expounds the Word of God and seeks to bring clarity where there may be confusion, and gentleness where there may be harsh dogmatism. … He seeks to obey the words of 2 Timothy 2:24–25: ‘And the Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition.’ ” I highly recommend this significant work for your reading and your library! 5 Stars! Reviewed by Christian Batcheller (Arlington, VA), May 06, 2008A very thought provoking and intellectually stimulating read into the seeming simplicity of the Christian gospel. Reviewed by Chris Sparre (Hickory, NC), February 06, 2008Great book!! Charles Ryrie argues for Biblical Truth especially his chapter "Repent! About What?" Sadly Mr. Rambo did not explain how Charles' book is borderline easy believism. C. Ryrie texplains that it is not easy to believe in his chapter "It's not Easy To Believe." I wish he would read the whole book... Reviewed by Damon Rambo (Clute, Texas), January 28, 2008Blah! Borderline easy believism. Although I think Macarthur goes too far with his "confession of all known sin" ideas, faith cannot be divorced from action; it WILL result in an immediate attitude change. http://www.straightwalk.com Reviewed by Leslie Jebaraj (INDIA), August 13, 2007This is an excellent response to Dr. MacArthur's book on the gospel. Dr. Ryrie's tone is polite and humble. And he very clearly and concisely shares what the Gospel truly is. His accurate distinction between salvation and discipleship is amazing. Those who say Dr. Ryrie promotes a 'easy-believism' Gospel have totally missed the simplicity of the grace of God. Dr. Ryrie has lucidly defended the Gospel of the Lord Jesus. Reviewed by Robb Lawson (Pensacola, FL), June 08, 2007Ryrie's So Great Salvation is an excellent book. While I do not agree with it 100%, it is, at least more biblical than John MacArthur's biblical works-based "Lordship Salvation" (AKA Evangelical Roman Catholicism). Ryrie presents the REAL gospel as found in 1Cor 15:1-5 and does not warp the meaning of Romans 10:9 like most Lordship Salvationists do. From the NET Bible in regards to Rom 10:9, The Greek construction, along with the quotation from Joe_2:32 in Rom_10:13 (in which the same "Lord" seems to be in view) suggests that κύριον (kurion) is to be taken as "the Lord," that is, Yahweh. Cf. D. B. Wallace, "The Semantics and Exegetical Significance of the Object-Complement Construction in the New Testament," GTJ 6 (1985): 91-112. Anyway, Ryrie's book is splendid and does not, as Bridget and Charlie Hoffer state, encourage Christians to sin. These are falsehoods perpetuated by the growing Roman Catholic evangelicalism movement. I encourage you to read this book two or three times. Reviewed by Bridget (Covington, WA), May 04, 2007I agree with the reviewer, Charlie Hoffer. For a more balanced view of Salvation, please read "The Gospel According to Jesus" by John F. MacArthur. http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/easy_find?Ntk=keywords&Ntt=The+Gospel+According+to+Jesus&action=Search&N=0&Ne=0&event=ESRCN&nav_search=1&cms=1&Go.x=11&Go.y=8 Write a review of So Great Salvation Other Customers Also PurchasedFind Related Products
