Fierce and fragile, the mysterious Elizabeth is obsessively drawn to the promise of gold in 1880s Alaska. But when kind Noah Wesley saves her life during a violent blizzard, she won't tell him why she's chasing her dream through a pounding storm. Can these cold and lonely hearts risk everything and be forever warmed? 304 pages, from B&H.
Jamie Carie is the author of Snow Angel, a ForeWord magazine Romance Book of the Year winner, USA Book News National "Best Books 2007" Awards winner, and 2008 RITA Awards® Best First Book finalist. Her third novel, Wind Dancer, was a 2010 Indiana State Library Best Books of Indiana finalist. She lives with her husband and three children in Indianapolis.
When Noah Wesley hears a sound at his door, deep in the wilds of Alaska, he thinks its just the wind from the raging blizzard. But when God prompts him to open the door, Noah is shocked to find a half-frozen woman. Its touch and go at first, but Elizabeth survives. When she tells Noah that she wants to hire him to guide her to the gold fields, Noah doesnt know what to believe. A woman has no business trekking hundreds of miles in the rough Alaskan wilderness, especially one who was near death so recently.
Elizabeth Dunning is determined to find gold and strike it rich. Shes known poverty and back-breaking work her whole life, and she needs the gold to make life better for herself. If Noah wont take her, shell find someone else who will.
When Noah discovers that Elizabeth has left for the gold fields, he knows he must go after her. She has no clue the danger shes in. Noah has realized that he loves Elizabeth, and he cant risk losing her. But with a rough man from her past on Elizabeths trail, can Noah find her in time? Will Elizabeth stay alive long enough for him to save her?
SNOW ANGEL is Jamie Caries debut novel, but it doesnt read like one. The story starts with an intense scene and never lets up in excitement. Elizabeth is determined, if not sometimes foolish, in her quest to get gold and doesnt mind risking her life to achieve her goal. Noah is a great hero. Hes a gentle, kind man of God, but is thrown for a loop when feisty Elizabeth storms in and quickly steals his heart. Ms. Caries vivid descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness and the rugged trail to the gold fields will have you believing you are there.
SNOW ANGEL is a truly engaging story, but there are several scenes that some inspirational readers may find offensive. While Noah is a Christian and relies on the Lord, the spiritual theme found in most Christian fiction novels is less obvious in SNOW ANGEL. There are brief scenes of Elizabeths mother before her daughter was ripped from her arms in the prologue and letters from the detective she hired to find Elizabeth that run throughout the story as a subplot and add intrigue as the detective finally draws close to his prey. Elizabeth believes that nobody can ever love her, yet Noah is determined to prove that Gods love and his own defy all odds. SNOW ANGEL is the fascinating tale of a single-minded young woman who will stop at nothing to achieve her goal, even if it means giving up the only man who has ever loved her.
