This movie leaves much to be desired... The acting isn't great, the plot is poor, and the dialogue is very unrealistic. Carmen, the Bible smuggler, comes across as arrogant and unChrist-like. (In addition, she refuses rescue because the agent carries a gun... not very realistic in my opinion.) Plus there isn't much of a conclusion because the film ends suddenly. In fact, when the movie ended, my family and I were asking "Is that it?" In short, the movie could have been good had the plot been better developed, the script rewritten, and the actors recast. BTW, I haven't watched the bonus features w/Richard Wurmbrand so I can't comment on those.
I can't say that the acting was bad or the lines were cheesy (I have seen worse). One character (I don't want to give away too much) rethinks his/her life and turns to God. That was very heartfelt - I was impressed. (It's also towards the end of the movie, so anyone turning it off before would not have a chance to see it.) One drawback is: the movie isn't really about the situation of the persecuted church under Communism. An American girl is caught and an agent is sent to free her. It's more of an action movie than any kind of overview of persecuted Christian. I think what makes the DVD worth getting are the bonus features, e.g. Richard Wurmbrand giving his testimony.
The acting could have been better but the message and the special features were wonderfully eye openning. Those who are interested in anything with The Voice of the Martyrs would enjoy this. Highly recomment not just entertainment but a motivator to reach the lost.
