The book's basic information will be familiar if you have read any of Ramsey's books or listened to him at all. However, the difference is that it is directly written to parents who want to instill financial wisdom in their children. Also, it was nice to have it written from the point of view of a daughter who was raised with these principles and it is now succeeding as a financially responsible adult.
The chapters include Work, Spend, Save, Give, Budgeting, Debt, College, Contentment, Family, and Generational Handoff. They are easy to read, informative and practical.
My husband and I having been working through Dave Ramsey's principles ourselves, but now this month we are beginning to plant these principals in our children's lives and heart. This will be our "generational handoff" to bless their generation and future generations of our family.

Before we were married, we read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey and it just reinforced so much of what we had already discussed as far as how to spend, save and give money as a couple. That book encourages getting out of debt, spending cash and not on credit, and it encourages saving and giving.
In the first 2 1/2 years of our marriage, we saved as much as we could to prepare for children but we also worked crazy hard to pay of the remainder of my husband's student loans from college. That taught us several things. First, the average person can live on way less than they think they can including us! Second, student loans SUCK! Third, we wanted to do things differently financially from that point forward.
When I saw this book for review, I jumped on it immediately hoping it would be an excellent guide and resource to teach our son and any other future children how to best manage money and hopefully avoid mistakes that Matt and I have made, some by choice and others not.
Rachel Cruze and Dave Ramsey, her dad, both wrote Smart Money Smart Kids. This book is separated into sections including Work: It's NOT a four-letter word, Spend: When It's Gone, It's Gone, Save: Wait for It, Give: It's not Yours Anyway and several more chapters designed to help families or all shapes and sizes to teach good stewardship to their children.
I loved the way this book is written. The points are straight forward and relatable as well as understandable to the average person who doesn't have an accounting degree! Rachel and Dave discuss finding the balance between teaching your children about how to manage money well and how to given grace to your children in those areas as well.
The author duo offers so much information about ways to save as adults as well as ways for children to save for big ticket items such as cars and college as well as small items and what it means to set financial goals.
I love the focus on remaining out of debt at all times. This goes against so much of what the world is teaching right now but it doesn't go against what Matt and I currently believe and know in our hearts is right for us.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to teach their children about money and in the process, learn more money management for themselves too!
Reviews4U4 Stars Out Of 5May 15, 2014Reviews4UDave Ramsey teamed up with his daughter to write this practical guide on how to raise financially responsible children. They provide many guidelines for teaching children beginning at age three. Rachel also provides insight into her personal experiences growing up in the Ramsey household. While this dynamic duo provides guidelines and processes they also emphasize balance. Rules are good but there are certainly times where exceptions should be made. During these times parents have the opportunity to model grace to their children. You will find an example of this when Rachel gets married and needs additional money.
I have been a Dave Ramsey fan for years. I find this book to be full of a lot of great ideas that will certainly come in handy while raising children. While everyone has a different parenting style, I believe this book offers a good foundation for teaching children about money. The ideas provided can be used as discussed or modified to fit your household. I enjoyed the addition of Dave's daughter to this book as she was the main voice. It was interesting to hear her perspective. From what I read in this book, I respect the Ramsey's for how they raised their children. Although Dave and his wife have money, they did not pave an easy road for their children to travel upon. I would definitely recommend this book to others who are interested in ideas on how to raise smart-money children.
