Publisher's Description

A rally for a controversial presidential candidate.
A terrorist threat.
A nightmare of cataclysmic proportions.
Jack and Pamela Crittendon have hit the breaking point. After months out of work as a reporter, Jack is playing Mr. Mom and working part-time at Festival Arena with his survivalist friend Brian Shakespeare. Meanwhile, Pamela has gone back to work full-time while eight months pregnant. Having her recently widowed mother on hand isn’t making matters any easier.
With financial pressures boiling, Jack reports for duty at a rally for controversial presidential candidate Martin Sterling where he expects a mindless night on the job. But when Homeland Security picks up intel about a potential terrorist threat, Jack and Shakespeare are thrust into a life-or-death battle to save their own lives—and the lives of thousands of innocent people.
This third book in The Crittendon Filesreminds us of the power of family, friendships and faith—and why we are never in as much control as we think.

Review from Rambles of a SAHM

Have you ever gone to a sporting event or concert in one of those large arenas? Did you look all the way up to the top and see that area that has access to the lighting and technical areas for the arena? Did you see how dark it was up there? How about the security? Did you notice who was directing people where to go?

In Sky Zone we meet up with Jack Crittendon again. This time he is a part-time security guard at Festival Arena. (He lost his job as a reporter, but I'm not going to say much about that because it will spoil the previous book if you've not read it.) Jack is desperate to provide for his family so he needs this job. Most of his fellow security personnel are retired men just looking for a little extra income. None of them are armed and most aren't even formally trained.

One seemingly uneventful evening Jack reports to work and finds out that the night's event is a political rally for presidential hopeful Martin Sterling. Shortly after arriving the team finds out that there have been terrorist threats. After much debate it is decided that the event must go on. Soon enough they find out that the threats were real. Now Jack and his fellow workers have to find a way to keep everyone safe and get them out alive. The stakes are even higher because of the unexpected guests in the audience.

I am thoroughly enjoying the Crittendon Files. This third installment just continues the heart-pumping, adrenaline rush that the first two books began. I like the realistic feel to this story. If you've ever been to a big arena you can completely imagine how the story could unfold. The characters are flawed but continue to work on being better people. I particularly enjoyed Jack's mother-in-law. That woman has spunk!

If you like a good political thriller that will keep you guessing, this is the book and the series for you! Sky Zone can be read as a stand alone novel, but there is an ongoing story line that I think you would enjoy reading from the beginning. The first book in the series is Fear Has A Name then it is followed by Poison Town. The back of the book doesn't mention a fourth book in the series, but I suspect there will be one. There are too many little threads hanging loose not to have another installment! I know that I will be eagerly waiting to read it.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Sky Zone is the third book in the Crittendon Files. After reading the first two books, I couldn't wait to read this one. It was not a disappointment. It continues the saga of Jack's family. He is now working part time. He is still trying to get a job as a reporter. This book is full of suspense, political intrigue, terror, and action. It definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat! This series continues to encourage faith in God and placing your trust in Him. I can not wait for the next book in the series!

I received the book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sky Zone by Creston Mapes is the third book in his Crittendon Files series. Wow. This story picks up about 8 months after the events of Poison Town. Jack is working part time now as an usher for an events company after losing his job. He and Pam are expecting their third child and they still have Pams mom, Margaret, who is dealing with dementia living with them. They are also having a lot of financial problems due to the loss of Jacks full time job and Pam has had to go back to work for insurance after being a stay at home mom. All of this is really putting a strain on their marriage. We are introduced to Jacks coworkers, especially Brian Shakespeare who is described as a survivalist. This book for the most part takes place in less than 24 hours. We do go back in some chapters to see how our main characters get to the places they end up being when a terrorist attack is about to go down. I dont want to say too much more, but this book is over 400 pages and I read it in less 2 days. That is how intense and fast and hard for me to put this book down was. One of the things that I really like about Creston Mapes stories, is that even though we are introduced to a group of characters and a lot is going on in all of their lives, I have never felt lost in his stories. He keeps the readers up on all of them and what is happening. I received this book from The Book Club Network, Inc. (TBCN) and the opinions are my own.

    Expert at Building Tension

I first met the character, Everett Lester, when I read, Dark Star. It was good to see him again in this book and note his continued growth as a Christ-centered rock star. (He has stayed the course.) Creston Mapes has the talent of writing believable characters. I feel as if I understand them while they wrestle with life's tough decisions. Jack Crittendon, the protagonist in this Christian fiction, feels as if he's fighting a losing battle and wonders when God will show up to help. With no permanent work for almost a year, a wife and two children, and one more on the way, life is tough for Jack. But Jack is a likeable guy, and this reader quickly connects with him.

Chapters flip-flop between the present time with a crisis occurring and three months earlier. The reader sees pressure mounting. This is a hard book to put down! Mapes is an expert at building tension and stopping just in time for the reader to breathe!

    I highly recommend this thriller.

One of the best political suspense novels I've read in a long time!

With the every increasing rise in terror threats, America is waiting for a president who can stand up and take action. It seems that Martin Sterling is just the man for the job. With government cuts in military spending, presidential candidate Martin Sterling believes we are becoming too passive and headed in the wrong direction. We shouldn't be negotiating with terrorists, we should be firming up and securing our borders and increasing the spending and support for our military. He is just what the American people are looking for, and if he can convince more of them, he might just win the next presidential election.

For Jack Crittendon, the economy is his worst enemy. Struggling to find a full time job while his his Pamela is forced to head back to work while 8-months pregnant is making him feel the pressures of maintaining leadership in his home. Yet no matter where he applies, he always comes up empty. But thanks to a contact with his friend Derrick Williams at the Gazette, if presidential candidate Martin Sterling wins this election, they will need someone to take over the editor's desk and they are looking at Jack. Unfortunately that won't happen until November and that is a really maybe at best. Until then, he is working security part-time at the Festival Arena in preparation for Sterling's upcoming speech.

Just when he thinks life can't get any more interesting, the Festival Arena is notified of a potential terrorist threat that about 30% confirmed to take place the night of Sterling's speech. But not all threats turn into reality, still they aren't willing to take any chances and call in for reinforcements from the local police and S.W.A.T. teams as well as anyone they can convince to help out. Thank goodness Jack's long time friend, Brian Shakespeare, an ex-military service man and survivalist is part of their team and they know he can handle organizing the security detail should anything happen. They just aren't prepared to see this nightmare come true in the worst of circumstances and things are about to get personal in this political suspense thriller.

I received Sky Zone by Creston Mapes compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance and David C. Cook Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained in this review are strictly my own. For those of you that love fast-paced, action-packed, political suspense novels, trust me and pick this one up. While it is part of a series, The Crittendon Files, you can pick this one up a stand alone and get immediately hooked. I literally read this one in one sitting. The stakes are high for both Jack and Brian when despite all their training, they find themselves coming up short and the expected results are not what they get. I love the way Creston gets the reader involved and caring about the outcome of his characters like Jack and the situation that is going on in both his personal and professional life at the same time which amps up his stress level. The writing is geared to hook you at the begin and leave you completely breathless by the end. Out of all three books in the series I loved this one the best. It's great for those of you that love movies like Patriot Games and The Fugitive. You'll find yourself holding your breath during this one! Easy to give this one a 5 out of 5 stars and love adding this one to my series. There is also discussion questions included at the conclusion of this novel!
