Product DescriptionThis book outlines the thrilling story of the onward march of the Church of Christ from the earliest times to the end of the nineteenth century. It is not a dry-as-dust account of long-forgotten events and controversies, but rather a moving record of those who undertook the adventure of faith before us and, through their courage and steadfastness, left an example for the church in every age. Reading of the exploits of those who have gone before us, through times of prosperity and times of persecution, should stimulate, warn and encourage the church in our own age to persevere in the same path, and obtain the same everlasting reward.

3 of 3 Reviews Showing: Reviewed by Vik (Ottawa, KS), April 05, 2008Informative, well-written, and interesting as far as that goes, but this book is from a distinctly Reformed point of view. It takes a very dim view of Arminians (except for perhaps the Wesleys) and Anabaptists. Not all of us believe that God would damn babies to hell "just because", so for those who aren't TULIPs, another church history book (such as The Pilgrim Church) would be better for you. For many of us, John Calvin was a murderer more than he was a "courageous" man of God. Reviewed by Reid Clark (Poca, WV), February 06, 2002An excellent synopsis. Deals with all of the major events of church history and the streams in secular history that affected them. An excellent tool for personal study, and in the hands of a learned teacher this would be great for a class textbook. We are using it in our adult and Senior High Christian Education curriculum in our EPC church. Reviewed by Dominic (Asia), December 24, 2000If you are looking for a book on Church History but you do not have time to read thick volumes and historical works, this is the recommended book to read (The other one is by B.K. Kuiper on "The Church in History"). In short, it is a very thought provoking book that greatly evokes your gratitude to God for His Providence and Protection on His Church - the Bride of the Lamb of God Write a review of Sketches from Church History Other Customers Also PurchasedAvailabilityAvailability: Only 2 in stock - order soon!
