4 Stars Out Of 5
Helping Us See in a Dark World

Christopher Heuertz is the International Director of "Word Made Flesh", which is a non-profit that seeks to serve Jesus among the world's poor. I believe they have different organizations in many countries that help in a variety of capacities.
This book outlines the elements Heuertz understands as a good starting place for healthy spirituality: humility, community, simplicity, submission and brokenness. Each chapter focuses on an individual component and Heuertz does a great job at blending biblical insight, personal stories and cultural references together in outlining why these are so important. I would recommend this book for those looking to learn more about spiritual disciplines or to learn more about the story of a great organization seeking to embody Jesus in difficult places. My main critique is that obviously not everyone can move overseas and implement some of the radical components that Heuertz and others have done. It would have been nice to see some more practical, day-to-day type of advice or stories for those who like these five elements but need some guidance for developing them in their own lives.
