Product Description

In today's fast-paced world, Christmas has become synonymous with shopping, spending, and stress. But according to former governor (and former pastor) Mike Huckabee, we can still recapture the true spirit of Christmas-of love, simplicity, family, and hope.

In this deeply personal book, Huckabee recounts twelve Christmas memories from his own life that illustrate the true meaning of the original Nativity, and teach us that sometimes the simplest things are the most precious.

Publisher's Description

The New York Times bestseller by the former governor and presidential candidate-an instant classic, reissued for 2010.

Christmas has become synonymous with shopping, overindulging, and stress. But according to Mike Huckabee, that was never God's intention. Going back to the Nativity, Christmas is supposed to be about simple things: faith, love, family, and hope. The hard part, in today's crazy world, is remembering that those simple things are the most precious.

Huckabee recounts twelve Christmas memories that range from his childhood in Arkansas to his years as a young husband and father to his time as a governor and then a presidential candidate. These true stories will help you smile, take a deep breath, and maybe slow down your own holiday treadmill.

For instance, as kids, Mike and his sister would sneak open their gifts before Christmas, play with them, then rewrap them so their parents wouldn't notice. The plan worked great until one Christmas when young Mike unwrapped a brand-new football...that was covered in mud. That led to a powerful lesson about patience and a reminder that the best Christmases are the simple ones.

Author Bio

Mike Huckabee won eight states and more than four million votes during the 2008 Republican presidential primaries. He served as the governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007 and as lieutenant governor from 1993 to 1996. Before politics, he worked in broadcasting and advertising and spent twelve years as a pastor and denominational leader. He lives with his wife, Janet, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They have three grown children, three dogs, and at least that many friends!

Author Info

Mike Huckabee is the bestselling author of Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America, which has netted more than 200,000 copies since November 2008. He is currently the host of Huckabee on the Fox News Channel and The Huckabee Report on ABC Radio.

During the 2008 GOP presidential primaries, he ran an underdog, grassroots campaign that captured eight states and more than four million votes nationwide. He came in second overall and established himself as a major player in the Republican Party.

Huckabee served as the governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007 and as lieutenant governor from 1993-96. Before entering politics, he was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister and worked for 12 years as a full time pastor. He was elected president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

Huckabee plays bass in a rock band on his weekly Fox show, and often at political rallies and TV appearances like The Tonight Show. He lost 110 pounds after being dangerously overweight, and wrote Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork, a book about his experience as a “recovering foodaholic.” He and his wife have three grown children.

Publisher's Description

In today’s fast-paced world, Christmas has become synonymous with shopping, spending, and stress. But according to former governor (and former pastor) Mike Huckabee, we can still recapture the true spirit of Christmas—of love, simplicity, family, and hope.

In this deeply personal book, Huckabee recounts twelve Christmas memories from his own life that illustrate the true meaning of the original Nativity, and teach us that sometimes the simplest things are the most precious.

Readers will be touched by Huckabee’s gentle humor and charmed by his moving stories. For example, he recounts how, as children, he and his sister would sneak open their gifts before Christmas and rewrap them so their parents wouldn’t notice. They were eventually caught when, one Christmas morning, Huckabee unwrapped a supposedly brand-new football that was covered in mud.

He also recalls more somber Christmases, like the one when he was a young newlywed helping his wife, Janet, as she struggled through cancer treatments.

A Simple Christmas will appeal not only to Huckabee’s core fans—those who watch his TV show, listen to his radio commentaries, donate to his political action committee, and flock to his booksignings—but also to anyone looking for inspirational yet entertaining Christmas stories.

I felt instead of Christmas itself it was a time of year to look back on the past year and anticipate the coming year. Christmas was a time to remember and cherish those memories and to make the future better. A praise to our Lord even for the hard times because it makes us more apprecitive of the good times.

Touching and full of reverence for God's wonderful gift to each of us. Now, if only folks in the USA would take that step back and remember that all the trappings (literally) of Christmas are just that-without Christ as the center-the only real reason for it all- all is vanity.

Reading this book has reminded me of the true spirit of Christmas, the focus on Jesus that we should have. It reminds us that we need to simplify Christmas. The book made a difference in my Christmas. I have given it to several friends as a gift. In telling the stories Mike Huckabee's humor is great, yet each story has a serious important message.

A great little read. Took me back many years ago to the day when things were so much less demanding but trials were still trials. A time of appreciation, courage and faith.
