Product Description

Lausanne's UK story can be traced back to the famous Charles Simeon of Cambridge, and the 'Clapham Sect', of which he was a member. Simeon's ministry marked a watershed in Anglican church history. John Stott, Dick Lucas and many others have based their ministries on his principles of exposition. This new title is full of familiar names and serendipities. It includes a concertina of the famous 'Simeon silhouettes', which have been unavailable since 1981. Visitors to Cambridge will also appreciate the walking map, showing the sites Simeon knew, and later additions like Ridley Hall and Tyndale House. Perhaps the most intriguing feature in these pages is Simeon's advice to undergraduates on how to get a good degree.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Julia Cameron
Located in: UK
Submitted: November 24, 2013

Tell us a little about yourself.  I live in Oxford, UK, and serve as Director of Publishing for The Lausanne Movement.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Charles Simeon's ministry marked a watershed in Anglican history, and so much of what we take for granted in the evangelical Church can be traced back to him, along with his friends in the group called the Clapham Sect. We wanted to make his life easily accessible to a new generation, and to give church leaders and other expositors the opportunity to own a copy of his famous silhouettes.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  We hope they will learn more of Simeon's life, his commitment to scripture, his far-reaching influence in the UK and in India, and his wise counsel. We think readers will enjoy his advice to students on how to get a good degree.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Being reminded of this extraordinary man, and his commitment to Christ in the face of opposition, was very stirring. The previously-unpublished drawing of his funeral procession is especially moving.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  John Stott, James Philip, Chris Wright, Dick Lucas, Vaughan Roberts, John Piper, Ajith Fernando (and others).

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  The booklet comes with a concertina of nine silhouettes. These are also available in enlargements for framing.
