Series: Rock Harbor
Bree Matthews is preparing for Christmas guests, but her heart is reeling from the recent and tender loss of her unborn child. Her sister-in-law, Lauri, suddenly turns up on the doorstep of the lighthouse home Bree shares with her husband, Kade, in Rock Harbor. Secretive and withdrawn, Lauri seems curiously intent on discovering what happened to a parachuter who disappeared in the North Woods along Lake Superior's icy shore.
As Bree and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog, plunge into the search, Bree wonders if Lauri may know more than shes admitted about the parachuter. And then the clues lead them to the trail of a young woman whose family fears the worst about her disappearance.
Will the search on this snowy, silent night lead Bree and Samson to more than clues about the missing girl? And will Brees prayer for a baby ever be answered?
WandaNCAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Silent Night by Colleen CobleNovember 21, 2013WandaNCAge: 35-44Gender: femaleBree and Kade Matthews wanted children but after her miscarriage she hadn't been able to get pregnant and it was weighing heavily on both their hearts. Although they had Davey, Bree's son from a previous marriage, they wanted one together. When Kade mentions adoption Bree agrees to consider it but deep down she knows it won't be the same. Being a search and rescue worker helps to keep her mind off of her troubles but she never gives up hope of having her own child.
Kade's sister has been a handful since their parents died and, at twenty one, he feels it's time for her to grow up and act responsibly. When a parachuter goes down in the woods near Big Piney River, Bree joins in the search. But what appears to be a simple accident turns out to be connected to a missing persons case. Kade is surprised to find out his "irresponsible" sister has been doing her own investigating on the case. Will they solve the case in time? And will Bree and Kade get the baby they have been praying for?
I must say I have fallen In love with the characters of Rock Harbor. Silent Night has a great storyline with depth and just enough suspense to keep you turning the pages at a rapid pace. It's a short read being a novella but it leaves you wanting more time with the characters of Rock Harbor. And it has not one, but THREE, animals which always enhances the story for me. I loved Bree's German shepherd / chow mix named Samson who went on search and rescue missions with her. Overall I was very pleased with this Rock Harbor novella and if you like short stories with suspense you will too. It can be read as a stand alone but I think after reading it you will want to delve deeper into the series. Colleen Coble is an author of no disappointments.

ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5A Clean Somewhat Disappointing RomanceNovember 16, 2013ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI will say up front that I was quite disappointed in this box. I realize that it was a novella, and reading the book couldn't have been easier. However, the execution of the story seemed rather hackneyed and sometimes even boring. The characters were fine, but I struggled to connect with them.
In spite of this, there were some familiar components. There was a bit of mystery, some heartfelt sorrow and joy, and the essential happy ending. The Christian message was subdued, but it was clear that the characters were strong due to the Lord. I wish that this had been about twice as long because I just feel that Colleen Coble is a better author that this novella. But I suppose for a quick, cozy read, this may just be what the doctor ordered.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
L. Miller4 Stars Out Of 5Fun Christmas Story!November 2, 2013L. MillerWhat a fun story! I really liked Bree ... she just seemed so down-to-earth and a little feisty. My kind of woman! The mystery part of the story happened pretty quickly (but the book is only 80 pages!), but it was still an intriguing plot.
I really enjoyed the secondary story as well, which revolved around the relationship between an adoptive mom, a birth mom, and the baby given up for adoption several years prior. It was just a sweet story and really made me think.
If you've read the rest of the Rock Harbor series, I think you'll enjoy this story. If you haven't read the other books in the series (like me!), Silent Night provides a nice introduction to the characters. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series ... and soon! [4 stars]
I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson and Litfuse Publicity via Net Galley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

HollyMagCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Welcome Back to Rock HarborJanuary 28, 2013HollyMagCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4First off, I want to thank Thomas Nelson and Colleen Coble for taking us back to Rock Harbor with Bree, Samson, and the rest of the family. I love this series and thoroughly enjoyed this installment.
Christmas is coming and although Bree and Kade are preparing for family to arrive their hearts are heavy. Bree like many women is struggling with infertility, which is weighing heavily on her heart as well as Kade's. Things become more stressful when Lauri arrives home two weeks ahead of schedule and is being evasive on the reason why.
Even in this short novel Colleen Coble draws the reader quickly into the story. The mystery behind the Lauri's behavior and her relationship with a young man killed in a parachuting accident will keep you guessing. It's a feel good Christmas story.
As a fan of the Rock Harbor series and many of Colleen Coble's other books the timeline of this one bugged me at first. But I quickly got over it and enjoyed the series. I hope we get the opportunity to see Bree, Kade, Samson and the rest of the family in future books.
I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a quick and touching Christmas story. I tend to enjoy reading a series in order but this would be a great introduction to Rock Harbor series.
