The Shepherds is a brief sketch that brings audiences a conversation among three of the shepherds outside Bethlehem following the visit from the angel. The shepherds are overwhelmed by their experience and decide to share with everyone the good news of the Savior's birth. This charming piece can be presented with a minimum of rehearsal, and it's flexible enough to be easily worked into any worship service. Dramatization notes are included, so even novice directors and small congregations can stage this simple but moving work. There are three speaking roles, plus an optional silent manger tableau with the Holy Family. It's a great way to involve some of your congregation's young people in Christmas Eve worship! Recommended for ages 6 to 11.

The Shepherds: Children's Drama for Christmas Eve 5 5 1 1

This program was perfect for a small church and very small cast. I rewrote some of the script to make it really today-friendly, such as in the beginning where Nathan greets Jesse, "Hey, long time no see, Jesse. Are you looking for the baby?" And there was just enough humor throughout to leave the audience laughing and the 3 shepherds delivered their lines really wonderfully. We projected all their lines to our back wall so they didn't have to do a great deal of memorizing. The audience enjoyed the part where one of the shepherds seems to think he knows all about baby humans because of his experience with baby sheep. We integrated songs suitable to the program content throughout. Great little program! Thank you. January 2, 2008
