Publisher Description

Through his years of ministry, Jimmy Holbrook has seen the need for parents to be intentional about providing an environment where kids can grow up to face the world with a solid, spiritual foundation. Parents are responsible to teach their kids how to function in society as spiritual warriors for Christ. Kids do not leave home without some understanding of relationships, character, or values. It is during those childhood years that parents are called to teach God’s truth by talking about it and living it out at home.

Shelter is an excellent tool giving parents instruction on the stages of a child’s development physically and spiritually. The author shares practical concepts for parents to implement in their home to authentically model the principles of Deuteronomy 6.

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm 39 years old and have been married to Abby for 13 years. I have five children. I love the outdoors especially camping in the summer and bow hunting in the winter. I also love to play basketball.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I have 5 children the oldest of which is seven and I am having a blast developing them into little warriors. I wanted to help parents see what an incredible opportunity we have to make a difference in the world by intentionally developing our children for Christ.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope people will gain a better understanding of how God designed the family to function.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I was able to take everything I have learned as a child, teenager, student, youth pastor, pastor, and parent and put it all together. Writing this book further reinforced the tremendous responsibility I must fulfill as a dad.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Jesus Christ and the Bible are the supreme source of my inspiration. I have also been heavily influenced by Dr. James Dobson and the Focus on the Family Institute. Some favorite authors include: Dallas Willard, C.S. Lewis, Andy Stanley, Oswald Chambers, and Patrick Lencioni to name but a few.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I want readers to know that I have been working with families at the same church for 14 years. I gained invaluable experience as a youth pastor working with older students. I am an alum of the Focus on the Family Institute where I was equipped to deal with family issues. I don't have all the answers but I do have some insight to share because of this experience.
