There aren't enough star spaces to show what this book means to me. I thank Larry Crabb for writing this book that only the Lord could fill to those who have experienced Shattered Dreams and understand Why? Many friends are now reading it and feel the same ..Thank You Darlene Watson

If you are struggling with prayers that seem to go unanswered you will find this book very helpful and encouraging. The author never makes you feel like you are a "heretic" for feeling like God just doesn't care, but certainly helps the reader know that God is at work in our lives even if we don't see it.

This book (along with _The Pressure's Off_, another book by Larry Crabb) was a great help to me last year as I struggled to accept a chronic, disabling medical condition. Crabb's patient unfolding of the treasures of Ruth should serve as a model of how to apply Scripture to hurting hearts while avoiding man-centered psychobabble.

This book came to me at a time our town was rocked by tragedy. I started reading it on Monday before the tragedy was revealed. Two families and many christians and residents of our town were all touched by the loss of a baby and the charges of murder. God has not revealed yet all His working in the lives this touched but this book links us to the Shattered Dreams that have come this week in a meer moment in time. A moment in time to cause us to question our life path. If you ever wanted to understand why Christians are broken, or why life is hard, or how did Paul find satisfaction in jail or in wealth, read this inspiring work of Larry Crabb. I believe He has found what Paul found, the purpose for out time on earth.

This book has dramatically changed my perspective on suffering. After the tragic loss of my 16 year old believing son a little over a year ago, I immersed myself into studying God's Word more deeply as it related to suffering. I, also, read many books on grief and loss written by many excellent authors. Aside from the written Word itself, nothing has changed my life more than this book authored by Larry Crabb. The idea of experiencing a joy better than I knew before my son had died was a completely absurd idea to me. How could my life ever be better than it was, with my family whole and happy? After reading this book I now find myself reaching toward a joy I have never experienced in my relationship with Jesus Christ. A joy that can only be found by walking this path. Thank you, Dr. Crabb, for leading hurting people toward the promise of God's ultimate joy when our dreams have shattered.

This is an excellent book. "Shattered Dreams" by Larry Crabb has been a "tool" in the hand of God for my life as no other book has (with the exception of the Bible). It has been used to shed light on the path that I have been traveling and has helped me to understand further what I've been personally experiencing deep within my soul...a desire for more of God, a deeper intimacy and relationship with Him above all else. I am truly grateful to Larry Crabb for allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct him in writing this book. God got it to me with perfect timing and has used it to confirm, strengthen and establish me along the "narrow path" that I choose to travel with my Saviour and in seeking to know Him in a way that I have always longed for. It has been a great encouragement to me to see that my own "shattered dreams" are not an indication that I am "lost" and have taken a wrong turn...but rather that I am on my way to realizing the greatest dream of my soul..."that I may know HIM"! Above all, thank you, Holy Spirit...and thank you Larry Crabb for being a willing and yielded vessel in the hand of God. I have not only read this book, but I am re-reading and reviewing and studying and using the workbook to get everything I can out of this Spirit-inspired revelation.

Overall it was a good read. starting with the negative, I don't like to think of it as sin for making my personal well being a priority. I don't like to think of God thinking that's sin. To me, that's God Given desire. The one thing I did like about that book is this, he even defends the afflicted brother using a four letter word to describe his situation. I think that's cool. At church, you're always expected to have a good attitude no matter how bad your situation is. to most church folks, that's demonstrating that you "have faith". I don't think it makes someone a bad Christian if someone uses foul language to describe one's affliction. I think it just makes that person honest. I happen to value being brutally honest even if it's socially inappropriate for a church setting.
