The second book in the series stands by itself. It had been sometime since reading the first book Submerged but I joined up with the McKenna family right from page one. Piper has grown up all her life with Deputy Landon but he has drawn away from her confusing her and she doesn't need to be confused while she is trying to solve who setup her brother Reed for the murder of Karli Davis. The book is fast paced, covers lots of mileage from Alaska to California and back. Not only the countryside is large but so are the people with so many important side characters developing Karli's background and life. Who was she? And who is still trying to kill them. Loved the read and the mystery, lots of twists and turns.

    Alaskan Courage Series!

Submerged! & Shattered! By, Dani Pettrey!

This is the first time reading any of Dani Pettreys work!

A good mystery book is what I've always enjoyed, and these books really keep you captivated in the story!

Submerged!! Bailey had vowed never to set foot in Yancy again, but then a death lead her back where she never wanted to go again!! As she arrives back home she gets overwhelmed with all the emotions of her reckless youth! And then the mystery begins!!!!

Cole is the head of his family after the death of their parents, he also has a past with Bailey!

As a Dive Rescue Captain, Cole has worked Search and Rescue cases before. This case however, brings all kinds of chaos! a murder investigation, and a reunion with the girl that broke his heart!!

As they are thrown together throughout this investigation they realize they have feelings for each other, but can they get past all the hurt!

This story is about heartache and forgiveness, and how their coming to Christ can change who they are and who they will become!

Shattered!! In this book we again meet the McKenna family, Reef finds himself in custody after being accused of murdering Karli! So Piper goes on a manhunt for the real culprit! She is sure her brother is innocent, so who is to blame!! Landon, family friend and deputy sworn to uphold the truth,( but the facts are stacked against Reef ) also in love with Piper, who thinks of him as her best friend!! They end up off on a great adventure trying to prove Reefs innocence, which is not looking good!! There is alot of suspense and intrigue in this story you are going to want to read it!

I was provided a copy of this book by Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in the Alaskan Courage Series from Dani Pettrey.

I already loved the first book. I was completely hooked on the series, close to the end of the first book when there was a significant scene with Landon.

Therefore I was very very courious to see where Dani Pettrey would take Piper and Landon. And what can I say? Their story was just absolutely beautiful. I don't think there was too much romance or that the scenes revolving around Landon and Piper were too "showy" (for lack of a better word).

The suspense kept me on the edges of my seat and I stayed up wayyyyyy to long to finish the book. Besides I wasn't able to guess who really did it and that is always a good thing.

I liked to learn more about the other McKennas and loved to meet Reef. I hope we see more of him in the future. He and Gage are quickly becoming my favourite characters in this series.

Everything is ratcheted up in the second Alaskan Courage book - the excitement, adventure, danger, romance... I really liked the first book, Submerged, I loved Shattered, now I am really looking forward to the third book, Stranded.

This book features the youngest McKenna, Piper, and older brother Cole's best friend, Landon as the heroine and hero. Landon has been in love with Piper since that incident last summer (Submerged), Piper is just starting to think a little differently about her 'adopted big brother'. Just when things might be making a change Piper's brother is accused of murdering a friend on the ski circuit. Piper knows her brother couldn't possibly commit murder but Landon is more cautious. Piper says he should feel more with his heart but Landon knows that can get you into trouble. Will they be able to get past the wedge driven between them and also find the killer?

Piper and Landon are some of the most likable characters I have read about in awhile. Landon is a good guy just doing his job, while trying to protect Piper and nail the killer - whoever he is. Piper is a smart cookie, a little impulsive, and fiercely loyal.

I think this book appealed to me because the focus was a little more on the suspense and slightly less on the romance. But believe me, this book delivers plenty of both! I could hardly put this book down. At the end of each chapter I kept saying "Just one more chapter, just one more", and I really did mean it every time, honest! Part of the storyline seemed like it could have been taken from the headlines, it kept me glued to the pages.

One of the threads in Shattered was how God will often tug the heart using family or friends and then use circumstances to finally bring the person fully to Him. To me, it also was a reminder that our lives should be a witness but ultimately it is God that brings people to Him. None of the McKennas beat their non- Christian family and friends over the head, but they also live their beliefs in every way.

So the findings of this investigation are: GO find a copy of Shattered and start reading it NOW!

(I won this book in a giveaway and am in no way obligated to review it. I have chosen to do so and all opinions are my own)

My favorite aspect of this novel was probably all of the snow-related themes such as the avalanches, blizzards, and snowboarding/skiing activities. What a perfect way to cool off during the summer - by escaping to the cold wilds of Alaska in your mind! I've always enjoy learning about new settings and this book provided plenty of new information about snowboarding and other activities to keep me interested. I also liked how it introduced a new character, Darcy, who will be the heroine in the third book.

It was great to see the same characters from the first book in this second book of the series. I already knew them in the opening chapters and that helped with my overall enjoyment of the novel. I didn't enjoy the mystery and suspense aspects of this novel as much as the first book, though. This one seemed a bit more stilted in regards to the faith element and sometimes it slowed the pacing down. Plus, there is just something about romantic conflict where the characters drive each other nuts and then constantly fight their feelings that can annoy me. This book wasn't too bad in that respect, but it did start to feel a bit repetitious.

Other than the internal dialog where the hero and heroine kept fighting their feelings for each other and doubting their faith, this story was quite an adventure. There were enough twists and turns to make the reader dizzy, but I like that about this story. I had no clue where it was going. Things just kept getting more and more complicated and the further they searched, the more risky their detective work became. All in all, this was an enjoyable story. I'd recommend it for mystery/suspense lovers who like a heavy dose of interpersonal conflict.
