I really love this book. I enjoyed both the romance and the suspense. The suspense is exciting and the story complex. The romance has an interesting storyline and is built upon the couple really knowing each other and not just upon a superficial relationship. I am always hoping to meet great characters in a novel, and this book delivers. The stories in the Alaskan Courage Series are all about the McKenna family, but with the focus on one particular family member in each book. Its fun to get to know everyone better as the series progresses. Some of the characters are Christian and others are not. In this book one of the characters makes the decision to become a follower of Christ. That commitment is one of the focal points of the story.
This book can definitely stand alone, but I suggest you read the books in order to get the most enjoyment out of them. I highly recommend Shattered by Dani Pettrey to those who like romantic suspense.
Oh my goodness... I thought that Submerged was sensational, but Dani Pettrey really outdid herself with Shattered! I'd definitely recommend reading the series in order to really understand the characters and the little details that Dani gradually reveals in each book. This one is my favourite so far. I also loved the addition of Darcy St. James - the tenacious little spitfire! Can't wait to see what might develop between her and Gage!
Shattered had loads of action and even more suspense (is that even possible?). I loved how Landon develops in the story, especially concerning his faith, and how his and Piper's relationship develops. Piper's curiosity, stubbornness and antics made me laugh! I'm glad that they realised their feelings earlier rather than later in the book. I think I would have died if the going forwards and backwards in their relationship continued any longer! Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery, spine-tingling suspense and a sweet love story.
Shattered is the second book in Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series. Although it doesn't specifically say, I believe that this book picks up just a few weeks after the first book ends.
The McKenna's youngest brother Reef has returned home after several years of being away. But the first time his family sees him he is covered in blood and is being arrested for murder of fellow teammate Karli Davis. The Mckenna clan then goes to work proving his innocence.
While we get to see all the McKenna siblings and Jake, this book is Piper McKenna and Landon Grainger's story. These two were so much fun. I love the interaction. Both are passionate, stubborn and clearly have issues but I just fell in love with them both more and more as the story unfolded. Piper has a great heart in believing her brother's innocence, however for me she was a wee bit on the reckless side. But this was countered very nicely by Landon's very practical nature. The two balanced each other very well. We get some very prominent backstory on Landon and we get to meet Darcy St. James who is featured in a future book.
One of the more impressive things about this book, is the amount of talk about God and faith. We do not normally get to see lengthy discussions about these things too often. More and more I read about God Jesus, faith and salvation just in passing, but the author did a wonderful job reveling where Piper and Landon stood in their faith, and it was delightful to watch that faith grow as the story progressed.
As with the first book, the amount of research that the author put in, was remarkable. She is truly gifted with the ability to bring the reader in with such vivid detailed descriptions of the places and people that she writes about.
This book was a good as the first, it does not disappoint.
