Aim for hours of reading pleasure with award-winning author Mary Connealy’s last book in the Sophie’s Daughters series. Mandy Gray, a wealthy sharpshooting widow, is content living in her mountain home and raising her young-uns alone. But how long can she protect herself when thieving outlaws have her surrounded? Rancher Tom Linscott can’t bear to see a defenseless woman in danger. Yet his rescue efforts end up bringing trouble right to her door. Now that they’re both trapped on Mandy’s Mountain, can they learn to live together—or will they die alone?
Mary Connealy writes romantic comedy with cowboys. She is a Christy Award finalist and a Carol Award winner. She is the author of the Lassoed in Texas Trilogy, the Montana Marriage Trilogy, and the Sophie's Daughters Series.
Mary lives on a Nebraska ranch with her husband, Ivan, and has four grown daughters: Joslyn (married to Matt), Wendy, Shelly (married to Aaron), and Katy. And she is the grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren.
Another delightful twist is the way Mary pulls all three series (Lassoed in Texas, Montana Marriages and Sophie’s Daughters) together. Most of the main characters have been woven throughout all three series in some fashion and Sharpshooter in Petticoats reunites many of them giving us a glimpse into their lives.
I highly recommend reading all three series; they will give you hours of great entertainment.
The story is lively with snappy dialogue and vivid images. Connealy’s trademark humor and dramatically contrasting prose make this an enjoyable read that passes way too quickly. It is also a pleasure to be reunited with the other McClellans as they plan visits to Mandy at her mountain fortress. This Mary Connealy novel is an absolute joy that lives up to the reader’s expectations – and then some.
Put it on top of your TBR list ASAP.
This is another great book from Mary Connealy and you won''t be disappointed! Well, maybe disappointed in that it is the last in this series, but I''m sure she has upcoming books that will knock our boots off!
This book has all the hallmarks of Mary''s past books with the humor, drama and the bad guys everything a historical western should have. I would love to see these books made into a series or movies as they would be well worth watching. It is also good to see women portrayed as strong which is what women in the west needed to be to survive. A great read and I am sad to see the series end.

All I can say is that I'm glad she still has some books that I haven't read yet because I really do enjoy her writing. Throughout this series she expresses faith just through the few thoughts each woman has when they get in a difficult situation. You can just tell when they each repeat their own special thoughts (words of faith asking God to protect them and their loved ones) to themselves that they know God is with them. In this book also she shows how close a family can be even though they are miles apart and only feelings and emotions to communicate one of them needs help. This book seemed to be the most action packed and the best one of the series.
MarieMDAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5This product was cornyAugust 27, 2013MarieMDAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I know that this was just a story, but I could not understand Mandy's reluctance to leave the Mountain and I thought what Tom had to do to get her to come down was real corny. There were too many extremes in this story that kept me from enjoying it.
