In describing her own upbringing and family of origin, Elliot gives us a glimpse into a home where parenting is not cluttered by the predominant mindsets in our culture that we face today. Her parents understood their responsibility to raise their children according to the word, teaching them according to the principles of Scripture. They also understood that, as the parents, they were in charge -- in a loving, kind way, always accountable to God for their own actions -- but they were in charge. The children were to honour, respect, and mind their parents and others. God's ways are always the best, and produce the best fruit, hence the children grew up into stable, responsible, confident and yet humble adults. I wish I would have read this when my children were very young, as I think I would have shaped me into a better parent. Now I often give this book as a gift at baby showers, and pray that the expectant parents would read it.
Superb book, worthy of any Christian parents time. Inspiring and practical, a memoir of her time growing up in her parent's home. Memories of a child growing up in a stable, loving, godly Christian home.
