This books is excellent! Book 1 of the series lays a lot of foundation and was hard for me, but it was well worth it when you read Book 2.

Karen has a way of captivating a reader and taking them on the wildest ride imaginable. The first book was a classic, but the second was even more of a thriller. Just when it couldn't be any better, out comes the third that is possibly the greatest book written, second only to the Holy Bible.

At this point, especially after re-reading the story, I’ve lost all objectivity about Karen Hancock’s writing, or her stories, and have become a total fangirl. Though many other CBA authors have been compared to J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, none others have come so close to matching the scope and wonder of these two classic, beloved authors. I was thoroughly drawn into this segment of the tale and found my affections unexpectedly engaged not only by Abramm himself, all over again, but various secondary characters--Uncle Simon, Lady Madeleine, and the boy servant, Jared. More depth is given to Abramm’s twin sister Carissa, as she must face her lingering disappointment over Abramm’s spiritual decisions. And the crowning point of the book is a marvel of love, faith, and the power of true fellowship.
It’s no surprise that The Shadow Within won the author her third Christy award for the third year in a row. Along with other dedicated Hancock fans, I wait with bated breath for Shadow Over Kiriath, the next installment of the four-part Legends of the Guardian King, due out November 2005.

I have never encountered Christian 'fantasy' of this magnitude. I could hardly put this book down. It's so very refrshing to read this genre when it's saturated with truth. Thank you so much Karen.

Although I'm just in the middle of this book, I would give it high remarks. No matter how it turns out it has been a good journey, and one that you can apply to your life even though it is fiction.
Karen Handcock gets better with every book that I read of hers. Areana was good, blown away by the Light of Eidon, and the Shadow within blows away that one.
I hope there will be a full series constantly going with the Guardian-King.
