The Severed Head, Elijah Creek & The Armor of God #1 5 5 3 3

I was surprised I found this on a clearance rack and thought I knew why as I read the first chapter. It starts slow, picks up a little in the 2nd chapter, and by the third itÃ¢ÂÂs hard to put down. Elijah Creek lives at a campground that his dad runs with his mom and twin little sisters. He goes to school with his cousin Robbie, long-time friend Reece, and Japanese transplant Mei. Skid joins the clan later after they make an interesting and mysterious discovery. I like the fact that the main character is not a Christian and has to learn about the Bible along the way as they all learn about the strange items they discovered buried beneath Old Pilgrim Church and a place they dubbed Ã¢ÂÂDevilÃ¢ÂÂs Cranium.Ã¢ÂÂ I would recommend this to the older end of the middle grade spectrum (8-12) or young adult. With characters both real and heroic, the Elijah Creek series is an inspiring, hard-core tale of friendship and adventure. I found myself falling in love with Elijah, his friends, and the Great Spirit who called them--and calls all of us--into His story. May 30, 2007

Even though this book is geared toward younger children, in my 30s I found it very inspirational and would recommend it for ages 8+. The writer does a wonderful job of putting you into the story. You feel like you are part of the adventure. She uses suspense to keep you guessing. I couldnt put the book down and have been working on reading the whole series. April 26, 2007
