This new, revised edition features updated teacher instructions and spelling lists, an answer key, and optional coordinating student workbook complete with daily "Using your Words" activities. 72 pages, softcover.
In order to be able to effectively use Sequential Spelling 1, students should be able to read and spell at about a second grade level. Students should have a basic understanding of the phonetic sounds for each letter and be able to guess at the spelling of the words using that phonetic knowledge. It is not expected that they will guess the spelling correctly every time.

Proverbs 31 Lady3 Stars Out Of 5Not sure it's a must haveJune 6, 2012Proverbs 31 LadyQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I'm not sure that the teacher's manual is helpful enough to make it worth it, but since it's not that costly it's nice to have. But you could probably get along okay without it.
RedwoodMomCaliforniaAge: 45-54Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Disappointed in some of the changes.February 8, 2012RedwoodMomCaliforniaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleI recently purchased the Sequential Spelling 1 DVD and revised teacher's edition. I am disappointed in the quality of the teacher's book. The pages are printed on newsprint and the print is very small. The notes to the teacher at the bottom of each page are too small for me to read comfortably. I used an older version of SS1 with my son (copyright 2006) and still have the teacher's book so I compared the two. The pages of the old book are printed on sturdy, white paper and the font is considerably larger. I can easily read the teacher's notes on each page, but this is not so with the revised edition.
On a positive note, the revised teacher's book has an answer key in the back. This is a nice addition.
I purchased the revised teacher's book because I wanted it to coordinate with the DVD. Since I intend to use the DVD, I need to keep the teacher's book. If someone was going to use the program without the DVD I would advise them to buy the previous edition teacher's manual. In my opinion, it's much nicer.
Even though I dislike some of the changes I would still recommend Sequential Spelling. It helped improve the spelling of my dyslexic child.
JGHmschlAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Not a NecessitySeptember 29, 2011JGHmschlAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I found out quite by accident that this is not a necessary purchase. The regular Sequential Spelling Level 1 "workbook" has enough information in it to get you through. The Teacher Guide gives a few pointers, but I really have not found it too helpful.
