In order to be able to effectively use Sequential Spelling 1, students should be able to read and spell at about a second grade level. Students should have a basic understanding of the phonetic sounds for each letter and be able to guess at the spelling of the words using that phonetic knowledge. It is not expected that they will guess the spelling correctly every time.

Smscales725 Stars Out Of 5Sequential SpellingSeptember 19, 2016Smscales72Quality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have just started using Sequential spelling this year. I really like it! Its all about the spelling! My son struggles to read and spell. This kind of learning makes a lot of sense to him and he is picking it up easily.
Cara4 Stars Out Of 5Sequential SpellingSeptember 2, 2016CaraQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I was mislead after reading the reviews, though CBD has clearly stated the spelling lists your child will work from are not included in the Student Workbook. You must have the Teacher's Guide because they contain the lists of words for each lesson.
MomofFive1 Stars Out Of 5April 2, 2013MomofFiveQuality: 1Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1I got this spelling book because it was recommended through Sonlight. We hated it. It was only a matter of weeks before we tossed it aside and ordered All About Spelling. Sequential Spelling just teaches memorization of spelling words through word families - but not all word families follow the same rules. There's no explaination for why some words are spelled a certain way.
All About Spelling teaches how to spell a word and why words are spelled the way they are spelled. It has helped my kids become good spellers so much better than Sequential Spelling.

Proverbs 31 Lady4 Stars Out Of 5It seems to workJune 6, 2012Proverbs 31 LadyQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4Haven't had this product too long, but already I think we're seeing improvement in spelling skills and vocabulary. I had heard good things about it, but I have to say, when I first got it and looked it over I was thinking it had been over-hyped. It is not as visually engaging as I would have liked. Also, I wish there were less words given per day. But the way words are presented and build upon each other seems to be effective. Students can also work independently for the most part.
