I'm halfway through this "study" and am regretting my purchase. I was looking for an objective bible study. This book is not objective at all. The author obviously has an agenda to push, one that I feel can be dangerous if taken seriously. For example, he pushes that sickness is caused by the devil and disobeying God. This is bad enough, but he then teaches that to be healed, we need only to pray and/or have others lay their hands on us and pray. Forget about going to the doctor. I believe if you have cancer, prayer is a good thing, but you need medical help too. I also was taken aback by his belief and teaching that unless you pray in tongues, you are not a good Christian. And unless you are submerged when baptized, you're not really saved. I believe in submersion, but not everyone does. And tongues? I don't know anyone who does that. And I'm only halfway through the book! Who knows what else I'm in store for. Anyway, I felt I needed to write this review so others would know what the book is about before purchasing. I wish I had had that information.
I have used this study to disciple new believers. Excellent tool. Also for the Christian who wants a more in depth understanding of scripture. All the answers to the questions in each lesson are taken straight from the Bible.
If a person will devote his or herself to completing this self-study course, attempt each chapter to memorize the Bible verse for that chapter, whether successful or not, look up the verses, review your answers with the answers given at the end of each chapter, you will have a better knowledge of the foundations of the truth of the gospel of the Kingdom than most folks in your community, church and maybe even most preachers. Also, you are very apt to run into the Teacher Himself!
Self Study Bible Course, Updated & Expandedby Derek Prince is clear, precise, easy to understand (in a way that you can easily share the information to help others). The book gives scriptural support for each concept. Ideal for foundation and spiritual growth. Give a copy to someone.
