John Milton, who abandoned early plans of becoming a clergyman to become a poet, was a master of almost every type of verse-from the classical to the religious, from the lyric to the epic. His writing reflected his radical views and his profound understanding of politics and power. John Milton (1608-1674) is the author of Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained, which he wrote later in life while completely blind.
John Leonard, a professor of English at the University of Western Ontario, edited Milton's Complete Poems for Penguin Classics.
