Because the plot is labyrinthine, the characterizations and mood suffer. Few characters grow, and Sienna narrates her tale of woe at one pace, which becomes tedious. She often includes irrelevant details. Also, because of the Amish setting, the religious doctrine relies heavily on the Amish interpretation of Scripture. Someone who enjoys being unable to predict what lies on the next page or enjoys a "twisted," soap-opera-like plot may appreciate this book. Generally speaking, however, it is convoluted and rambling. Betty Detwiler2 Stars Out Of 5Too long and too involvedJanuary 24, 2013Betty DetwilerQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2I liked Mindy Clark's million dollar series and thought this one would be right up there with a well written plot. I was sadly disappointed as Ms Clark incorporates too many plot elements that do not flow together well and distract the reader. Her main character, Sienna, comes off as worldly, self centered and materialistic, though at the end she does come out of that mode to take over the Bed and Breakfast.
Halfway through the book I was ready to give up as the plot rambled from a B & B with no guests, to the treatment of the Jews in WWII, to murder and animal fighting. Entirely too much plot for a story that takes place in the simple Amish countryside. I really wouldn't recommend purchasing this book as I was extremely disappointed in it.
