I love this book! I initially ordered it to send to some inmates with whom I correspond. I try to find things that will encourage them and challenge them to grow in their relationship with Christ. I thought, what better example could there be for them than Joseph?
Since I was unfamiliar with this book and its author, Bill Giovannetti, I decided to order one for myself. It was
very easy to read, but at the same time, very deep. I have already read it twice, trying to absorb its content and make applications in my own life. In addition, I have ordered 5 more copies to share with others.
My only critique would be that the book should be called "Secrets to a Joy-Filled Life," rather than a Happy Life. God's Word does not promise us happiness. Instead, we are promised joy and abundance that Mr. Giovannetti so beautifully describes.
Okay I have to make room for another book on my bookshelf! This one is a keeper. It is one I will reread and study many times over. When I first read the title I thought, "Okay another pie in the sky, Pollyanna book about how to be happy." I was so wrong!
The author does not promise some quick fix ideas to a happy life that everyone would like to find. I liked this as I do not believe there are any. Instead he turns to God's word and opens the door to what true happiness and how to achieve it realistically, God's way.
I liked his honesty in the fact that happiness doesn't consist of our mood or circumstances. In fact, it means facing some hard truths, biblical and personal truths about ourselves and our relationship with God.
He uses the Bible story of Joseph's life and all the mistreatment, setbacks, heartaches and tragedies he faced and overcame by relying on God. I have always found these scriptures inspiring and encouraging but Mr. Giovannetti opened my eyes to even more lessons and truths. There are many more scriptures and Bible examples to study and "renew" your mind. The eleven "secrets" aren't secrets at all but "meat" right from God's Word that presented in a new way. He helped me see that in trying to obtaining happiness the worlds' way, we are working against God, and then shares how to work with Him.
I loved the stories he shared about people today and his personal testimonies. I was pleasantly surprised at the delightful humor throughout the book. This book was a double blessing to me. Not just in the sound Bible teaching and inspiration but with having just lost my husband it is an encouragement in finding true happiness with the Lord. A book you WILL want to read.
I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This book, 'Secrets to a Happy Life', by Bill Giovannetti, is now one of my ALL-TIME favorites!! This is a NON-fiction Christian based book and I ended up using it as a devotional. I can only say that I'm just sorry it had to end!! It revolves around the life of Joseph in the Old Testament (who is my favorite Bible character). The author does an outstanding job of breaking down his life verse by verse and chapter by chapter in great detail, but in a very upbeat, up-to-date fashion, w/a sense of humor thrown in on the side. I love the way Bill always makes sure that the reader knows who is the REAL true character of the book and that is GOD himself.
It is filled w/Godly advice and Biblical wisdom, paralleling Joseph's life and how he remained happy even tho' going through the toughest of times. I hope to remember everything I learned from this book for the rest of my life. Highly highly recommend!!
Congratulations on finding the book with the secrets to living a happy life! Giovannetti gives readers a joyful and effective method to finding, sharing and maintaining happiness in life. Giovannetti defines happiness, then outlines the steps involved. Reading the Scriptural references, the story of Joseph, humorous style, and practical examples and illustrations, it would be a rare reader who does not experience joy while reading this book. Each chapter ends with discussion questions and a reading assignment in the Bible. It's just about impossible not to catch on and equally difficult to put down the book.
Giovannetti admits that all people suffer in some ways, but suffering is not a deterrent to happiness, saying "Adversity is inevitable, but misery is optional". He gives multiple examples of this concept as well as practical advice to achieve the right "frame of spirit" that leads to happiness. Readers may well wish to re-read the book in order to absorb more and commit it to memory. There is so much to learn! Want to know about pleonexia? Read the book and learn how while we may get what we want, we may not always want what we get.
It would be impossible not to feel happy while reading this book. God's love for His children pours out of every page. Readers will find themselves smiling. Happiness is all about love and God is crazy about His children. Therefore, it is possible and desirable to live a happy life, secure in the knowledge of God's promises. It all begins by letting go.
Building on the message that our true identities are assigned by God, Giovannetti includes Lewis Sperry Chafer's list of Our Riches in Christ. There are 36 of them, so grab a copy of this book and start celebrating. Get extra copies for loved ones and those who need help finding happiness.
I was given a free copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers for the purpose of review. I am happy to recommend it to everyone who seeks to live a happy life and to know the abundance of God's love. This is a book to celebrate and to love.
