Virginiaupstate NYAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5InterestingFebruary 24, 2015Virginiaupstate NYAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This is the true story of Nonna Bannister, a Russian girl who was in a German work camp during World War II. She kept a diary her life events that she did not share with anyone until she was much older.
I thought this memoir was interesting, but it was not easy reading due to the topic. Nonna's faith in God and her ability to forgive was incredible.
CurledUpWithaBookThe MaritimesAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Heart rendingFebruary 21, 2014CurledUpWithaBookThe MaritimesAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm so thankful that Nonna kept a diary and shared her story as painful as that must have been. The book was well written and easy to read though terribly hard to fathom how human beings can mistreat others in this way. It amazes me that people can carry on and move forward in these situations. Nonna and her mother were very strong individuals and I think everyone needs to hear their story.
I Love CardsPrince George, B.C.Age: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Sobering, well-written bookMay 17, 2013I Love CardsPrince George, B.C.Age: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I cannot say I "enjoyed" reading this book as it covers such a horrific time in our history. However, the writing was good, the story well and honestly told, and the leading character an endearing young girl. Nona managed to weave beautiful childhood memories in amongst the dreadful conditions and treatment they were forced to endure during the Holocaust. Her husband must have been a very special man as he respected his wife's privacy and trusted she would tell him what she kept in the attic when she was ready! I was strongly impacted by the true commitment and faithfulness he showed Nona throughout their lives together. I love my husband more than anyone, but I know I could never wait until he was ready to tell me. The Lord's still working on my patience!
This book is definitely worth reading.

So amazing what these people went through. You can not imagine it at all. Reading the book in a short time is easy but the time they suffered was much longer and you have to think about that as well
