A fresh approach to Amish fictionentwining the life of a female circus performer with an Amish widower whose daughter is injured while visiting the tourist community of Sarasota, Florida. Although their lives are so different, Natalie Bennett and Jacob Miller seem pulled together by an unseen force. The two met in the hospital, where Natalie visited the childrens ward as a clown. How could a relationship between the two ever work? Yet, both appear willing to try. Natalies family secrets add to the drama. I found the book enjoyable, but it could have used better copy editing.

I have to say this was a very different and intersting book than most Amish Fiction and this may be a strange comment to make. I mean no disrespect to the Amish Faith because I admite them and their life style and beliefs. However, I believe I would like to read at least one Amish Fiction where the Engolish person does not always become plain and the Amish person can convert to the English way of life without sounding as if that person will be no long acceptable in the eyes of God. . I found that thought lingering in my mind as I read this book. I am looking forward to reading No. 2 in this series also. I have probably close to 175 or 200 Amish Fiction books and intend to buy more.

A Season of Change is a heartwarming story and left me with a feeling of goodness. With the addition of Rebecca and Zeke, there was a note of humor and a touch of wonder at the thoughts of the children.

I was a bit disappointed in the amount of errors in the early chapters of the book, but they were easily overlooked because the story was so interesting.

***I received this book from the publisher/author in return for an honest review.

"It's hard to know how much compromise is too much, and what's not a big issue at all. Most of us who aren't Amish could argue all day about what's a compromise to our faith, and how 'separate' from the world we should be. For them, being separate comes from the inside as well as out." -Natalie Bennett

A Season of Change is set in the Plain community of Pinecraft, Florida. Where both Amish and Mennonites vacation, and some live and/or retire there as well. And it is where we meet Jacob Miller and Natalie Bennett.

Natalie Bennett is a former aerial silks artist for the circus and now teaches kids and adults at the local circus school. She also visits the areas hospitals dressed as Bubbles the Clown to entertain sick children and their families. She has recently discovered that her mother had been raised Amish and when she meets Jacob and his family during one of her hospital visits she is drawn to them.

Jacob Miller is a father and recent widower who is feeling pressured by his family to remarry. Only he doesn't feel drawn toward the Amish girl that they are trying to convince him to marry. Although he does feel drawn to Natalie Bennett, mainly because of the way that she has with his children, and how they feel about her; but because she isn't Amish he can't even consider her to be his wife. Or can he...

I enjoyed this story very much, and while the setting was different than in most Amish novels, it worked very well. The characters were realistic, and faced real trials. I also enjoyed the time I spend in Pinecraft, and even though I have never been there the scenes where described so well that I could picture the city as I walked through Pinecraft with the characters. I look forward to visiting Pinecraft again when I read the next book in Seasons in Pinecraft series A Path Made Plain.

A Season of Change by Lynette Sowell is a thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters are so well developed that you find yourself crying with them, holding your breath, and rejoicing. And sometimes all on the same page!!

Ms. Sowell uses her gift of writing to produce an Amish tale with a decided twist. Setting the story in Pinecraft and plausibly drawing in the circus world makes for a fresh look at both ways of life as seen through the eyes of the wonderful characters.

I found myself racing through the book to get to the next page and trying to slow down to put off getting to the end. Well done, Lynette Sowell! I certainly hope we get to visit with the Millers and the Yoders in another novel.
