Colleen Coble offers another compelling novel, rich in characters and mystery. Although this book is clean, as all of Colleen's books, I felt it lacked the Godly depth in the character's lives that I have discovered in other novels she has written.
The knowledge Elin has obtained from the heart she received was an interesting plot, and encouraged me to do additional research on this topic. Colleen is a detailed author who never disappoints to never allow any loose ends at the conclusion of her writing.
The suspense held me at the edge of my seat until the conclusion of the final chapter. This would be an excellent summer read for your vacation. It comes highly recommended.
In Seagrass Pier, Colleen Coble has penned a heart pounding, suspense-filled novel in the lovely, seaside setting of the quaint little island of Hope Beach, North Carolina. Hope Beach is a veritable vacationer's paradise; with its white sandy beaches, roar of the surf, the fresh salty scent of the sea air, and the moon glimmering on the peaks of the whitecaps--but underneath the guise of warmth and beauty lie deadly secrets, deceit, and murder.
Elin Summerall has been given another chance at life. A young woman named Laura has been murdered and Elin has received her heart in a transplant, along with some of Laura's memories, habits, and violent flashbacks of her murder. Elin, a widow, moves to Seagrass Pier with her little girl, Josie, and her mom, to try and recapture some peace and also learn more about Laura in the process.
When Elin begins to receive threatening letters, phone calls, and visits from a stalker, who seems to want her dead, a handsome FBI agent from her past, Marc Everton, reappears in her life to help. Marc has more than a vested interest in her and Josie's lives due to a secret Elin has kept from him for almost five years. Can Marc and Elin, along with Laura's memories, put the pieces together before she becomes another of this madman's victims?
Colleen Coble is a master story-teller whose suspense books are guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats, with an adrenaline rush from beginning to end! She is an expert at descriptive imagery, and I could actually see the pounding surf and hear the cry of the seagulls in my mind's eye. There was not just one romance in this novel, but two! -- as one of the secondary character's story comes to life as well, and the romantic tension was extremely palatable! There was a surprise twist at the end that threw me for a loop, and lovers of whodunits will be entranced; staying up well into the night trying to figure out who this crazy stalker is! Nicely done, Ms. Colleen Coble!
"Never judge a book by its cover". This is a great quote that we have all heard for a long time. I believe that quote fits this book perfectly, as judging by its cover, I think this is a book that a lot of men would overlook. If you did, though, you would be missing a pretty terrific story.
Elin has had a difficult life between her father dying, her husband dying and being diagnosed with heart disease. The only good thing has been being able to get a heart transplant. That is, until she starts "seeing" scenes from a murder that she never witnessed, the actual murder of the person who's heart now resides in her chest. Making statements to the police about her visions only causes her to look crazy, something she doesn't want to put her daughter through. As a result, she moves to Hope Beach and there she runs into Marc who has heard about her visions and reaches out to see if there's more to them then what he's been hearing. Running into Marc was the last thing Elin wanted. Not only did he elicit bad memories of the night her father died, but also the fact that he is the father to her daughter, a fact she never let him know. As they work together to find out what her memories mean and if they are truly memories from the murder, they find their feelings for each other rekindling. Throw in an equally great storyline with Marc's cousin, Sara, and the suspense never ends. Are the memories really from her heart donor? What troubles can Sara get into? Can they track down the killer before its too late? Shake off the sand and go BUY THIS BOOK!!!!
This genre of "Romantic Suspense" is getting under my skin. I do like me some suspense, but I guess that I'm also getting to be a closet romantic. This is the third book in the Hope Beach series. While they may have been written as stand alone, there are characters that you reconnect with from each book. The suspense is accelerator to floor excitement that never lets up once. While I'm not 100% sure about some of the "coincidences" that happened for plot lines, but they weren't so overtly unrealistic that they detracted from the story. The romance is pretty evenly distributed throughout the book but it does wind up with a typical ending.
Is this a "guy's book"? If you rank the suspense from 1 to 10 with 10 being the most suspenseful novel ever, I would rate this as a 7. Some great suspense blended with touches of romance will make this book one that should be added to your "needs to be read" pile.
I received this book from the publisher and Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for my honest opinion.
Once I picked up this book, I found I didn't want to put it down; it drew me to turn the pages. When you read the blurb on the back of the book, you get the gist of what this book is about, but not the terror you are going to experience. You will never see what is about to happen, it was one thing after another, and kept changing until the end.
How many murderers are there? Are they all related? You will be asking yourself this and other questions, whom can you trust? Just when you think you are at the end and the answers are there, your surprised to find out, nope not all of them.
Elin started her marriage to Tim by telling him she had betrayed him and is expecting a child. Oh my, not good, but he seems to want the marriage anyway, and wants the child to carry his name. What a start to a marriage, and he knows who the real father is and sure, not surprisingly, doesn't like him.
The story starts after Elin's husband has passed and she has received her transplant, but now the dreams start, and her anguish begins. I have to say that the author does a wonderful job of keeping us in the dark, until the last moment. Don't miss this one it will linger with you for a long time!
I've read most of Colleen Coble's books, and this one ranks right at the top!
I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.
This book is richly woven with themes of forgiveness, identity and much more. The story line is cutting edge with the tie to whether heart transplant recipients start having new memories and tastes based on those of the person's whose heart they now carry. The story is my favorite of Colleen's recent books. I love the Lighthouse historical series, but this book is about to knock a couple of those down a spot or two on my all time favorites list. The race to uncover the murderer will keep you guessing -- though I did figure it out about 2/3s of the way in. There's an additional mystery thread to keep the pages turning as well as the developing romance between and challenges confronting Elin and Marc.
This is a beautiful story that will land on the keeper shelf of those who love romantic suspense or are fans of Colleen Coble's books. If you haven't tried one of her books yet, this is the one to read!
