The Old Scofield KJV bible is my favorite bar none. The chapter titles and subtitles and headings are very much on the mark. The notes are to the point and are not organized as a verse by verse interpretation but as a Bible wide doctrinal interpretation. It teaches the dispensations of time but it is not hyperdispensationalist as it is accused of being. The exegesis is exceptionally good but keep in mind that the Teacher is the Holy Spirit and not the editorial house scholars. The quality of the binding is excellent as well, the print size is adecuate and the external appearance is beautiful. I bought the thumb indexed one even though I have a system for marking the main books that allows me to fly through the Scriptures. This is a good buy for the price and I ordered it with free shipping so that it arrived at my door intact and without a hassle, as has been custumary of Christianbook.
Years ago my pastor at the time had one of these and loved it. When I was considering getting one I talked to my mom, a fine Christian woman, about them. She told me that she had had one and had worn it out. Good enough for me; I wanted one. So far I have used it very little, just got it today, but have been impressed. The paper is a little thin, but I got it for what is on the paper not just the thickness of the paper. I feel certain that I will gain a better understanding of God's word with the helps available. By the way, I got my mom a new one so she can wear it out, too.
