A group of middle schoolers are faced with important decisions about cutting school, getting extra credit to improve their grades, experimenting with drugs, and making friends with kids who don't share their values. Rafe's older brother Javier explains why cutting school is a bad decision, and how he learned to make a better one with the help of a concerned guidance counselor and a mentor. Shana decides to get the help she needs and work with a tutor. Ken makes the decision to turn down drugs and gets help from Rafe on how to do it. Shana and Margot have to decide whether to hang out with the popular girls who scorn schoolwork, or be true to themselves and their values. The teens learn how talking to an adult, considering their values, and thinking through consequences can help when making important decisions.
