How are Christians to approach the central gospel teachings concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus? The Bible firmly establishes the historicity of these events and doesn't leave their meanings ambiguous or open to interpretation. Even so, there is an irony and surprising strangeness to the cross. Carson shows that this strange irony has deep implications for our lives as he examines the history and theology of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.

Paul Bitzer5 Stars Out Of 5Top ReadJanuary 23, 2011Paul BitzerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I will admit Scandalous is not for everyone (though it probably should be) this book gives us classic Carson.
Found myself pausing while digested his insights into 5 selected passages from the N.T.

Andrew5 Stars Out Of 5June 9, 2010AndrewOther than the Bible, there has only been one other book I have bought and gave out in mass quantities. This joins the ranks. I read several books every week. Of this one I say: Get it. Read it. You will not be disappointed. The Gospel is not only explained, but unpacked in a way that you have probably never seen or experienced before. This book exults Christ and will grow you in your daily walk with Him.
Justin4 Stars Out Of 5May 19, 2010JustinAwesome book. The chapter on Revelation is worth the price of the book alone. This is my first Carson book and I was very impressed with his teaching and wisdom.
Jonathan5 Stars Out Of 5March 27, 2010JonathanIn his book "Scandalous: The Cross and Resurrection of Jesus" D. A. Carson takes a fresh look at the story of the cross and resurrection of Jesus in 5 specific passages. This is an excellent book. I found the first chapter on Matthew 27:27 - 51a very insightful. Carson looks at four ironies in this passage of Scripture: Jesus as King, Jesus as powerful, Jesus as Savior and Jesus' trust in God. While this passage of Scripture has been looked at over and over again, especially at Easter time, Carson looks at this passage with fresh eyes and offers helpful insights into understanding it. Carson offers the same helpful insights into Romans 3:21 - 26, Revelation 12, John 11:1 - 53 and John 20:24 - 31. This book is an quick an excellent read. I highly recommend this book. It offers several new insights into often read passages.
