I love this curriculum. It is easy to use and implement. Everything is in order and is easily torn out and added to my daughters portfolio. My only suggestion would be to make it into one big workbook (for convenience only). I am a first time homeschooling parent and this curriculum is very easy to follow. It teaches your child the method to the madness of math that sometimes we as adults we forget. For example, today my daughter was learning about adding nine to a number (9 + 1 = 10). For some people, it is easy to just add the two numbers but this curriculum provided a lesson on other ways to come up with your answer. Add 10 and then subtract 1 from your new answer. This may seem like this is the hard way but when the student gets to 4th grade and they have to add 35 + 39 using mental math, the student will be able to just round 39 to 40 and then take 1 off of their answer. I have a daughter doing this lesson in 4th grade right now and she is amazed at how fast she can add two digit numbers together without having to rack her brain over it...Thanks Saxon for making this homeschooling mom's life that much easier.
We have used Saxon with all of our children who homeschooled starting with Saxon 3; we used Saxon all the way through.
I would recommend Saxon each and every time, I reviewed and checked others, but Saxon kept coming out on top, especially at the high school levels; we do include the DIVE starting at 8/7.
I ordered the workbooks for level 3 again, because we will now have our grand son start with Saxon 3. Before level 3 we have never used a "formal curriculum" so I cannot speak to the K through 2 volumes, but 3 and up get 5 stars from us.
