I've been using Saxon Math for years with my other students. I have a first grade student who has high-functioning autism. I am confident no matter what the challenges may be, that my student will have a high math aptitude because of the quality and details Saxon puts into their curriculum. It's cumulative so while they are learning new lessons, they are constantly studying the older ones. Another aspect I like is the pages are not "busy" which helps against distractions and keep the student focused on the assignments.
Saxon math 1 is an excellent program you can easily tailor to your child's individual needs. Some of it IS repetitive but I find it enforces concepts sticking with your child later on. CBD is the best price around!
I love the early books for Saxon math because through a lot of repetition and building step by step, kids learn to master basic math that gives confidence and ability to add to a solid foundation as they go through school.
We are just getting started with the Saxon Grade 1 math curriculum. We were given the teachers manual, so I went ahead and purchased the student materials. Discovered that we were missing the "meeting book". So, if you're ordering this, make sure you order the "meeting book" also. Otherwise, I think this will be an excellent, well rounded, easy to follow curriculum!
I am looking forward to using this curriculum this year, following last year's Kindergarten curriculum. My child was in K last year, & everything was too easy for her. I had to skip many lessons, & supplement greatly from other sources. I am hoping that the combined foundation from last year will have readied her sufficiently for next year, & that there will be more challenging things for her do learn. I really appreciate the script for each lesson, & the list of materials that you need in each teacher's guide, & the masters for printing.
