I purchased the Saxon Math 1 the summer before my daughter going into Kindergarden at the advice of a friend. We do two pages a day, just the front portion, unless she gets stuck on a question. Then I use the back of the page to go over the topic, and then we move on.
Saxon Math home kits/books are fantastic. They qualify for "blended" math in home school programs, they are "spiral learning" style so the kids learn something new and review something old making sure they don't forget. This program keeps you slightly ahead of provincial grade. Both of my kids love it. One part with calendar, one part hands on manipulative, and one part written practice. It covers all learning styles and works very well.
I give this 4 stars. This is a very good program, but my 5 yr old is past this. I think i did not know what kind of math a first kindergardener and 1st grader did because I am buying math curriculum for the first time this year and finding my children are far above the recommended curriculum. The way I solved this was to do more pages a day and add the math they were doing to keep it freash, that way they will get whatever I forgot to teach them. Overall this is a very well organized curiculum and my 5-yr-old really enjoys it. My biggest complaint is that the description says it has everything you need in this kit which is not true. I probably should have read the description better but I thought since it said this was everything I needed that it would come with the teachers guide which it did not, so make sure you buy the teachers guide and it also does not come with the meeting book.
