## Product Description

Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.

Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 65 textbook covers concepts such as: the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots. Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more.

Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth "Investigations" are provided every 10 lessons, and have their own set of questions. Math 6/5 also includes 6 in-lesson activities and 5 investigation activities.

The Tests and Worksheetsbook provides supplemental "facts practice" tests for each lesson, as well as 23 cumulative tests that cover every 5-10 lessons. The included "activity sheets" are designed to be used with the activities given in the student worktext. Five optional, reproducible, recording forms are also included.

The Solutions Manual provides answers for all problems in the lesson (including Warm-up, lesson practice, and mixed practice exercises), as well as solutions for the supplemental practice found in the back of the student text. It also includes answers for the facts practice tests, activity sheets, and tests in the separate tests & worksheets book.

Saxon Math 6/5 is designed for students in grade 5, or grade 6 students who are struggling with math.

This Saxon Homeschool Kit includes:

• Student Text; 120 lessons, 12 investigations, 712 perforated pages, softcover, 3rd Edition.

• Tests and worksheets book; 261 perforated pages, three-ring-punched. 3rd Edition.
• Solutions Manual; 313 perforated pages, softcover. 3rd Edition.

Our daughter loves this program! She is doing very well with it & loves that she can do it on the computer without having mom teach every aspect of it (using the teacher CD's). It allows her some independence in her learning.

Downhill with Saxon

He did wonderfully with Saxon 2, 3, and 5/4. However, we just finished 6/5 and math has totally gone downhill for him using Saxon.

We do it exactly the way it is intended. We do every single problem. We check daily work and lovingly correct mistakes together. When he has gotten below 80 on a test, we backed up to that lesson and re-started.

Unfortunately, the sheer number of problems encourages sloppy work. My son Actually has a great work ethic and attitude but when you have 45 problems every day, would you be likely to rush? More than that, there is just not enough time for things to sink in. He learned multiplying fractions, percents, and dividing fractions in just a few days. No wonder he was confused.

Last but not least, My son now loathes math. Because there is always something new, he never feels confident or successful.

My kids have been using Saxon math products since K and respond well to incremental learning. There is plenty of practice (extra available in the back of the book) and review of previously taught material. Some parents don't like the language used in the lower grades for operations, such as "some, some more", but my kids found this helpful when working out word problems. Like any program used for homeschooling--use what works and change what doesn't.

Although this is my first math book ive ever used for my 10 year old daughter and I have nothing to compare it to I will deffinately be purchasing the next level for her next year. This math book is awesome it has the student do a drill test, mental math and other warmups before they learn a detailed lesson! I love how thorough this book is. My daughter has the ability to self teach with this book. After a lot of research, hints the name. I would recommend this book and will being using it again.

### Q: Are Saxon homeschool versions Common Core aligned? I'm looking for NON-Common Core math!

A: Saxon math has not been updated to correspond with the common core.

### Q: Are the tests included in this kit?

A: Yes, this kit includes the "Tests & Worksheets" book.

### Q: which math book would you recommend for the grade 9 level.

A: As a general rule Algebra 1 is recommended for grade 9. Since every student is different, we recommend administering a "Saxon Placement Exam". Select the "Homeschool" tab at the top of our web page, then select the "Saxon" tab located under the main tabs. You will find the link to the free PDF test document there.
