Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.
Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 65 textbook covers concepts such as: the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots. Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more.
Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth "Investigations" are provided every 10 lessons, and have their own set of questions. Math 6/5 also includes 6 in-lesson activities and 5 investigation activities.
The Tests and Worksheetsbook provides supplemental "facts practice" tests for each lesson, as well as 23 cumulative tests that cover every 5-10 lessons. The included "activity sheets" are designed to be used with the activities given in the student worktext. Five optional, reproducible, recording forms are also included.
The Solutions Manual provides answers for all problems in the lesson (including Warm-up, lesson practice, and mixed practice exercises), as well as solutions for the supplemental practice found in the back of the student text. It also includes answers for the facts practice tests, activity sheets, and tests in the separate tests & worksheets book.
Saxon Math 6/5 is designed for students in grade 5, or grade 6 students who are struggling with math.

Miclyn3Age: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Comprehensive ProgramNovember 20, 2013Miclyn3Age: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We switched this year to Saxon after using another curriculum for several years. The other program was good but as my daughter got older, I realized she was missing quite a bit of the basics. I didn't want it it become an issue later on so I decided to look for another curriculum. There is more work for her to do with this program but I am more confident she is receiving a more solid base.
Each day there is a warm up exercise, a lesson, then mixed practiced of what has been covered up until that point. So it is constantly reviewing what has been learned. The other program we used didn't do that so I realized my daughter was forgetting some of the concepts she learned.

Angie Cook5 Stars Out Of 5September 10, 2008Angie CookSaxon math 6/5 made my daughter's test scores rise dramatically. Every day there are math problems from a previous lesson and the lesson number is written very small underneath so if your child misses a problem you know where to go for more review. My child missed 15 problems per lesson and finally at the end of the year she started missing three to five problems per lesson. The review questions that Saxon includes in their lessons everyday were essential and the timed tests helped her tremendously. I would highly recommend this product.
