The DIVE software teaches Saxon lesson concepts step-by-step on a digital whiteboard, each lesson averaging about 10-15 minutes in length. Because each lesson is stored separately, you can easily move about from lesson-to-lesson as well as maneuver within the lesson you're watching. DIVE teaches the same concepts as Saxon, but does not use the problems given in the text; it cannot be used as a solutions guide.

II)May 14, 2014toomanybooksTexasAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We love Saxon math, but I feel it absolutely necessary to use either the DIVE cd-rom or Saxon Teacher cd-rom in tandem (particularly for the higher level classes). My son liked the person on the Algebra I Saxon Teacher cd and it worked well. But, he did not care for the person on the Algebra II Saxon Teacher cd. So, we decided to try the DIVE cd, and my son liked Dr. Shormann much better. In summary, what worked for us (with Algebra II, specifically): he watched each DIVE lesson with the textbook in front of him; he then did the lesson problems; if he had any confusion or questions, he then watched the specific lesson on the Saxon Teacher cd, which goes through the problems in the textbook step by step. So his "teacher" was technically Dr. Shormann, while the Saxon Teacher cd provided him with step by step help, only when needed. I realize it is more expensive to purchase both cd's, but we felt it was well worth the money. My son never needed any other outside help, other than that provided on the 2 sets of cd's. (And it was still much less expensive than taking the class at a home school co-op). I am confident that he has a firm foundation in algebra heading into Saxon Advanced Math.
CheaSacramento5 Stars Out Of 5Saxon Algebra 2 w/ DIVE CDOctober 30, 2010CheaSacramentoQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I've used ALL the Saxon Math books along with the DIVE CD starting in the 78 series. I've been completely satisfied with the Saxon and DIVE lessons. After finishing the Algebra II lessons, I was surprised to discover the Saxon books did not cover ALL the Algebra concepts (85%). Luckily, with the help of the DIVE CD series for Algebra II, my son was able to complete the needed Algebra to qualify to pass his CLEP exams.
I'm not familiar with the Saxon CD series, but we did review a sample Saxon CD and my son found he liked the DIVE better, which I enjoyed because it's cheaper then the Saxon, plus my son seemed to relate better DIVE.
I gave a four star rating for "Meets Expectation" due to the number of errors and typo's I found in this book. But luckily you can find them on the Saxon Home page. I just didn't like having to track them down. I have enough to do as a home-school mom. But I love Saxon Math and will never sell or give away my library of them. They can always be used for future grandkids too.
