I was very impressed with the acting, writing, and production values of this movie, compared to most other "Christian" movies; and in fact, it stands up well to secular movies. Plus the Ving Rhames backstory is very interesting, which is part of the ample extra features you don't usually find on Christian DVDs. I would highly recommend it, especially for someone who complains about the quality of Christian movies.
As a conservative, Bible believing pastor, I can honestly say this is one of the best Christian films I've ever seen. A lot of Christian films are schlock-fests with bad adding, saccharine dialogue, and over simplified solutions to problems. Not so with this movie. It was a gritty, human drama about redemption. The ending had me with tears in my eyes. I'm really shocked by the one viewer that rated it so poorly. She commented that the Christian couple had only been with each other was a dead giveaway to fornication. I disagree. It was stated in a way that could be taken that way; could also be taken as they have only dated one another. The conversation in the film with the quote in question wasn't sexual in nature. I didn't take the quote as being about sex when I watched it. This was a great film, with a great story and great acting. Ving Rhames is fantastic in it. I'd highly recommend this film to anyone.
I consider this movie to be a great example on how people are prejudged and how some churches loose the real focus on what is importance of what pleases God, not only as a church member but as a Pastor. This movie gives alot of insight.Thank you for the message it brings to our hearts. God bless you! Wilda
This is an excellent movie. The person who gave this one star may not have really been watching the movie with the proper focus.First when God saves us he does not hide our personalaties so the preacher may have been tough but he loved the Lord. Secondly, in the movie it was clearly stated that the christian couple had only been with each other and that they did not have any sex.Christians do not all come wrapped in the same package as our experiences are different. However, it is very clear that the ex-con pastor was motivated by the love of Christ in his life because even in anger if we are truly Christ's he will stop us from going over the edge if we obey his voice.I only need to tell you that this movie was shown in a youth meeting comprised of tough young men from a detention center. At the end of the movie when the invitation was given 30 of them with tears in their eyes came to know Jesus Christ and are currently continuing to study the scriptures and live for Christ simply because they said that this was the first "christian," movie that they had seen which reflected the reality of life in the inner city and God's will that none should perish but that all should come to him.
